CONTENT SPECIALIST

MARKETING & DIGITAL GROWTH DIVISION

PURPOSE SUMMARY

The Content Specialist will write excellent and compelling content for Compassion Canada’s various audiences across its multiple platforms. The Content Specialist will support the Marketing and Digital Growth Team and the organization on a variety of projects aimed at raising awareness of God’s heart for children and those in poverty, mobilizing the Church in Canada to respond, increasing the ministry’s influence throughout Canada’s Christian community both with existing and future supporters, build brand equity and impelling action on behalf of those living in poverty. This candidate will help to develop and support projects to meet these goals. They will be a team player and be enthusiastic live our Compassion Canada’s Core Values.

WHAT YOU DO MATTERS

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop written content to support various marketing needs that align with strategic goals. including, but not limited to, marketing campaigns, digital and print resources for both prospects and sponsors, blogs, Compassion Canada’s print publications, social media platforms and internal stakeholder groups.
  • Walk narrative content from the idea stage and deliver to market in multiple styles, across multiple channels and platforms (e.g. copy for web, ads, email, social media, etc.).
  • Work with the Content & Public Relations Manager and the Social Media & Creative Manager to develop a portfolio of focused content and identify internal neighbour groups to support in a strategic way.
  • Keep up-to-date with market research provided by the Director of Digital Marketing & Experience and the Chief Marketing & Digital Officer on audience segmentation and strategic communication goals.
  • Edit and proofread content for the organization, as needed.
  • Ensure all written communications adhere to Compassion Canada’s Communication and Creative Access Model Guidelines, Compassion Canada’s Tone of Voice and Brand guidelines, Compassion Canada’s ministry philosophy, and Canada Press style.
  • Become familiar with and conversant in current topics regarding child sponsorship, international development, and Christian response.
  • Participate in and contribute to team meetings, including creative brainstorming sessions.
  • Provide input and advice to various internal neighbour groups within the organization and build relationships to maximize storytelling and marketing potential.
  • Consistently meet or beat deadlines and communicate in a timely fashion when deadline extensions are necessary.
  • Contribute towards other communications tasks as assigned.
  • Assists the department/team with other duties as requested.

WHO YOU ARE MATTERS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing for multiple platforms and audiences, including web, print, social media, and campaign content.
  • Experience in developing content that aligns with brand voice, tone, and strategic objectives is essential.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian English grammar, spelling, and style; familiarity with Canadian Press style is an asset.
  • Experience in international development, global missions, or related fields is considered an asset.
  • Previous travel to, or professional experience in, low-income countries is considered beneficial.
  • Proven ability to work independently while also contributing meaningfully in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Experience working within a faith-based, non-profit, or ministry context is an asset.

WHAT YOU BRING MATTERS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A degree in Communications, Marketing or in a related field.
  • Experience in International Development is an asset.
  • Travel and experience in lower income countries is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work Schedule: 16 hours per week (Permanent, Part-Time)

  • Regular collaboration with colleagues, leaders, and cross-functional teams will take place via digital platforms, ensuring consistent engagement and information sharing across time zones and work locations.
  • The role may involve periodic in-person meetings, leadership retreats, and divisional gatherings at Compassion Canada’s office or other designated locations to strengthen culture, alignment, and collaboration.
  • Occasional travel within Canada may be required to support Partner Relations events, leadership initiatives, or operational planning activities.
  • Overtime or flexible hours may be required during seasonal peaks, special events, or project rollouts.
  • Compassion Canada is committed to a remote-first and digital-first engagement model, ensuring all staff have access to tools, technology, and practices that support productivity and belonging, regardless of work location.
