Who We Are:

Cogent Biosciences is a publicly traded biotechnology company focused on developing novel precision therapies to treat a broad range of patients with unmet medical needs. Cogent’s lead program, bezuclastinib, is designed to selectively and potently inhibit exon 17 mutations found within the KIT receptor tyrosine kinase, including KIT D816V. KIT D816V is responsible for driving a rare and serious condition called Systemic Mastocytosis, and exon 17 mutations are also found in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), a type of cancer with strong dependence on oncogenic KIT signaling. Bezuclastinib has exhibited promising initial data across all three trials: APEX in AdvSM, SUMMIT in NonAdvSM and PEAK in GIST, including an encouraging safety profile across 600+ patients in single agent and combination dosing.

The Role:

The Patient and Community Educator (PACE) serves as a trusted resource for individuals living with Systemic Mastocytosis (SM) and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST), as well as their caregivers and community members. Reporting to the Director, Patient and Community Educators, this field-based role is responsible for delivering clear, compassionate, and compliant disease and treatment education through live and virtual engagements.

The PACE team will play a critical role in empowering patients and caregivers with knowledge that helps them better understand their condition, navigate their treatment journey, and engage more confidently in conversations with their healthcare teams.

This role requires a unique combination of clinical fluency, emotional intelligence, and communication expertise. The ideal candidate is passionate about patient advocacy, skilled at translating complex medical information into accessible language, and motivated by making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients living with rare diseases and cancers.

Responsibilities:

Patient & Caregiver Education

  • Deliver disease state and treatment education to patients, caregivers, and community members in both live and virtual settings.
  • Facilitate educational programs, webinars, 1:1 meetings and small-group discussions designed to increase disease understanding and patient confidence.
  • Translate complex clinical information into clear, relatable, and patient-friendly conversations.
  • Serve as a compassionate and knowledgeable resource for individuals navigating the challenges of rare diseases and cancers.

Community Engagement

  • Build trusted relationships within the SM and GIST patient communities.
  • Support patient advocacy events, educational forums, and community meetings.
  • Collaborate with advocacy organizations, healthcare organizations, and community stakeholders to expand educational outreach.

Program Delivery

  • Execute educational programming aligned with company strategy and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate and host patient education events, including virtual webinars and in-person programs.
  • Ensure all educational materials and discussions adhere to regulatory and compliance standards.

Patient Insights & Collaboration

  • Capture patient and caregiver insights from field interactions and share them with cross-functional partners.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams including Patient Advocacy, Marketing, Sales, and Patient Support Services to ensure alignment.
  • Provide field perspective on patient needs, barriers to care, and community trends.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation of interactions and program activity within CRM systems.
  • Ensure strict adherence to privacy regulations and company policies.
  • Represent the organization with professionalism, integrity, and empathy in all interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; clinical background (RN, NP, PA, PharmD, MSW, or similar) preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in patient education, nurse educator roles, patient services, or similar patient-facing roles in pharma/biotech.
  • New product launch experience preferred.
  • Experience in rare disease, oncology, or specialty medicine strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex medical concepts clearly and empathetically to a patient audience.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills in both virtual and live environments.
  • Ability to build trust with patients, caregivers, and advocacy communities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a field territory independently.
  • Technologically proficient with CRM systems and virtual engagement platforms.
  • Bilingual language skills are a plus

At Cogent Biosciences, we are at the forefront of biotechnological innovation, dedicated to engineering and developing precision therapies that target the fundamental drivers of genetically defined diseases. Through our groundbreaking work, we are revolutionizing treatment paradigms for patients with conditions that have long been underserved by conventional medicine. Our methodical and rational approach to drug discovery allows us to identify and validate biological targets, leading to the creation of therapies designed to deliver dramatic and lasting impacts. We are not just treating symptoms; we are addressing the root causes of disease, with the ultimate goal of restoring health and enabling patients to live fuller, longer lives. Our world-class discovery organization, with a significant presence in Boulder, Colorado, is relentlessly pioneering best-in-class, small molecule therapeutics that aim to overcome the limitations and safety concerns of existing treatments.

Our most advanced clinical program, bezuclastinib, exemplifies our commitment to innovation. This selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor is meticulously designed to potently inhibit the KIT D816V mutation, a key driver of systemic mastocytosis (SM), a serious disease characterized by the unchecked proliferation of mast cells. Bezuclastinib also targets other mutations in KIT exon 17, which are prevalent in patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Beyond our lead candidate, the Cogent Research Team is aggressively expanding our portfolio. We are developing a suite of novel targeted therapies aimed at mutations in critical oncogenic pathways, including FGFR2, ErbB2, PI3Kα, and KRAS. By leveraging validated biology and a deep understanding of genetic disease drivers, Cogent Biosciences is committed to transforming the therapeutic landscape and bringing tangible hope to patients and their families worldwide.
