About the role
Manages litigated claims and the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), overseeing litigation and fraud investigation strategy, assigning cases to outside counsel, evaluating performance, controlling costs, and leading pre-suit consultation across all lines of business. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.How does this role make an impact?
Leads strategy for litigated claims, including coverage determination, investigation,evaluation of liability and damages, reserving, negotiation, resolutionstrategyand cost management.
Provides guidance and counsel to claims personnel with respect toidentifyingpotential fraud and referring claims to SIU, including training on fraud-related issues for other company departments.
Providestechnical mentorship and trainingonpolicy interpretation, claiminvestigation and handling,andlitigation managementforall lines of business.Serves as an escalation point for technical and policy-related disputes.
Develops andmaintainsclaims policy for litigated and SIU claims. Monitors litigated and SIU claims results,identifiestrends, andworkswith business units to improve results.
Buildsandmaintainsstrong relationships with claims departments, product, underwriting, legal and reinsurance functions.
Manages the implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and activities in assigned areas. Maintains current contact information for all employees in applicable areas and communicates with non-recovery employees during a disaster.
Do you have what we're looking for?
- Typically requires Juris Doctorate and 10 years of claims experience, including 3 years managing litigated claims or special investigations.
- 3–5 years of progressive people leadership experience, including serving as a leader of leaders
- Deep experience developing and executing strategy for complex, pending litigated claims, including coverage, liability, and resolution planning
- Special Investigations Unit (SIU) experience, including fraud identification and oversight of referred claims (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience leading or sponsoring projects or initiatives that drive improved claim outcomes, consistency, or cost control
- Proven ability to partner effectively with Legal, Claims leadership, and other cross‑functional stakeholders
Base Pay Range:
$202,000-$277,750The base pay range represents the typical range of potential salary offers for candidates hired. Factors used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, qualifications and experience.
Incentive Pay:
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a Short-Term Incentive plan.
