About this position
We are looking for a strategic and hands-on Associate Director of Software Architecture to lead the design of a high-performance, scalable system architecture that empowers end customers to dynamically control electrical loads on the grid. This role is instrumental in enabling real-time, bi-directional communication between distributed devices and cloud systems to support grid flexibility, demand response, and energy optimization.
This leader will work across multiple specialized component teams—including embedded firmware, cloud services, data engineering, mobile/web applications, and DevOps—to define and guide the delivery of a cohesive, end-to-end solution architecture. You’ll align technical direction, ensure seamless interoperability, and be accountable for the architectural integrity of the system from edge to cloud.
Role Responsibilities:
Define the required functional components and functions required for the system solution
Design scalable, secure, and high-performance technical architectures.
Produce technical architecture documents, system design specifications, and API documentation.
Define system interfaces, integration points, and data flow diagrams.
Plan for horizontal/vertical scaling and disaster recovery.
Define security architecture and ensure compliance with standards (e.g., NERC, SOC2).
Maintain architectural decision records (ADRs).
Choose appropriate technologies, platforms, and tools based on requirements and constraints.
Oversee teams implementing the technical design.
Role Purpose:

Communicate with senior leadership regarding matters of strategic importance to the organization; conducts briefings with senior leaders in and outside of job function
Work across multiple specialized component teams to define and guide the delivery of a cohesive, end-to-end solution architecture
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree.
12+ years of experience in the IT industry, with a focus on software development, systems engineering, or architecture.
8+ years in a dedicated Architect role (for example but not limited to: Solutions Architect, Data Architect, Enterprise Architect).
3+ years experience in architecting complex IoT systems capable of scaling 10,000+ connected devices with a reliability SLA of greater than 99.5%.
Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
