The story of BESTSELLER began in 1975 in the small Danish town of Ringkøbing, where Troels Holch Povlsen and his wife, Merete Bech Povlsen, embarked on a humble venture. Initially, their single store served as an outlet for Troels' uncle's clothing. However, the couple's entrepreneurial spirit soon led them to expand their horizons. Before the year was out, they began importing their own products and venturing into the world of wholesale, laying the foundational stones for what would become a global fashion empire. A pivotal moment arrived in 1980 when they acquired a store in Aarhus named 'BESTSELLER,' a name that would soon represent their entire burgeoning company. The company's roots deepened in 1985 with the establishment of its main office in Brande, a location that remains its headquarters to this day, a testament to its enduring heritage.

From its initial focus on women's fashion, BESTSELLER's journey has been one of continuous evolution and expansion. The company's brand portfolio began to take shape with the launch of EXIT in 1986 and the iconic VERO MODA in 1987. A significant milestone was reached in 1988 with the opening of their first international store in Norway, marking the beginning of their global footprint. The introduction of JACK & JONES in 1995 signified their successful entry into menswear, followed by the launch of their first children's wear brand, which would later become NAME IT. This strategic diversification continued, with accessories, maternity wear, and plus-size fashion joining the extensive range of products. In 2001, the torch was passed to the next generation, with Anders Holch Povlsen, son of the founders, taking the helm as CEO.
