Technical Applications Manager

The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Technical Applications Manager to join our Application Services Team. The Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing Avantor’s Biopharma Production (BPP) chemicals portfolio. As a subject matter expert, this individual will lead client technical discussions and presentations, collaborate closely with commercial teams and clients, and foster innovation through customer engagement and cross-functional partnerships. The role is pivotal in articulating Avantor’s unique value proposition and shaping product strategy through direct client interaction and technical insight.

This is a remote, field-based position and travel for this position may be up to 50% based on client needs with limited international travel.

What we’re looking for

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a science discipline is required; Masters Degree or PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical, Biochemical, Biomolecular Engineering, Genetics, or Bioengineering is strongly preferred
  • Experience:
    • 6–8 years relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with a Bachelors Degree is required
    • 2–4 years relevant experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with a Masters or PhD is required
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • History of process development or manufacturing science and technology roles in a regulated biomanufacturing environment including scale up
    • Experience working within a GLP/cGMP environment

How you will thrive and create an impact

  • Technical Leadership & Communication

Independently develop and deliver compelling technical presentations on Avantor’s BPP chemicals portfolio, including new product innovations, hydration, direct dispense, and custom chemicals to drive a consultative sales approach.

Clearly articulate Avantor’s value proposition to internal and external stakeholders at the national level through presentations at tradeshows and scientific symposia.

  • Client Engagement & Problem Solving

Partner closely with commercial teams and clients to identify pain points and deliver innovative, customized solutions.

Identify and establish new customers and business opportunities within production chemicals.

Lead technical discussions with clients, including participation in cross-functional teams to address complex opportunities and RFPs.

  • Strategic Collaboration

Work with Regional Sales Leaders and Business Relationship Managers (BRMs) to influence commercial strategy and maximize revenue opportunities and strategies across North America.

Collaborate with product and strategic marketing teams to gather and represent the voice of the customer.

Drive alignment for internal stakeholders (R&D, manufacturing, marketing) to ensure that key customer opportunities are being managed and completed efficiently.

  • Innovation & Product Development

Provide feedback to R&D Application teams based on client interactions to identify product gaps and improvement opportunities.

Contribute to innovation strategy, including new product development, product enhancements, and rationalization initiatives.
