THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Manager, Procurement (Packaging) to lead the identification, validation, optimization, and management of packaging suppliers for our consumer goods products: using market and supplier insights to deliver quality, supply security and on time delivery (while ensuring the best price). Additionally, this role is crucial for ensuring the delivery of packaging solutions that meet our sustainability and product development goals. You will collaborate closely with Supply Chain, RNI, and Membership Experience teams to bring new suppliers, develop and define specifications, provide prototypes and ensure the viability of new packaging innovations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the sourcing process, have experience in working within direct materials (understanding the impact of commodities and using insights and data to drive supplier development strategies), supplier relationship management, and supply chain optimization.

Through this collaboration, you'll play a vital role in executing the procurement strategy and ensuring alignment with the company's overarching goals and objectives. This is a highly-visible role that requires effective communication, problem solving with attention to detail, critical thinking and analysis, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships. This role is slated for a 9 month contract, 40 hours a week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Category Research & Analysis:

  • Conduct ongoing packaging category reviews and analysis to identify trends, performance risks, supply chain efficiencies, and market demands.
  • Develop comprehensive reports and data-driven recommendations to inform strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Maintain a robust database of current and potential packaging suppliers, detailing cost structures, geographical locations, availability, demand, and other KPIs to support decision-making.
  • Stay informed on market trends, raw material availability, and external factors (e.g., natural disasters, supply chain disruptions) that could impact packaging supply and proactively communicate these to stakeholders.

Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Lead the identification, onboarding, and offboarding of packaging suppliers, ensuring alignment with AG1’s quality, sustainability, and innovation goals.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate supplier performance, driving improvements and ensuring risk mitigation across the supply chain.
  • Manage the procurement and timely delivery of packaging samples for evaluation, ensuring they meet product requirements and quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Legal and Quality teams to ensure suppliers comply with AG1’s certifications, regulatory requirements, and specifications.

Supply Chain Optimization:

  • Ensure packaging supplier diversity by securing backup suppliers and enhancing flexibility in the supply chain to mitigate potential disruptions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to optimize the supply chain, including reducing lead times, minimizing waste, and improving delivery schedules to support production timelines.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align packaging procurement strategies with sustainability goals, quality standards, and cost-efficiency objectives.

Stakeholder Engagement & Innovation Support:

  • Support Product Development and RNI teams in launching new products and packaging innovations through the stage-gate process, ensuring that supplier selections align with business objectives.
  • Facilitate packaging component research and analysis to drive innovation, enabling product development teams to create novel and sustainable packaging solutions.
  • Provide internal stakeholders with recommendations on packaging materials, assessing whether to retain, enhance, modify, or discontinue based on performance and market analysis.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Analytics, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in market research, data analysis, or a procurement-related role.
  • Proven experience in managing supplier relationships, particularly with a focus on packaging materials, components, and innovation.
  • Expertise in supply chain optimization and ensuring supplier diversity and performance excellence.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools, such as Excel, Tableau, or similar software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey insights effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Understanding of supply chain processes and procurement methodologies.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • Competitive compensation and performance-based incentive plans.
  • A 100% remote working environment (excluding Laboratory positions), which has been implemented from day one.
  • A strong company culture that is enforced through the hiring process to ensure values alignment and a highly collaborative team.
  • A mission-driven approach to everything that we do, with an overall goal to significantly improve our customers’ health and wellness.
  • A high-growth, dynamic environment with opportunities for your direct impact to be felt.
  • A work environment and culture that is based on high performance, productivity and continuous improvement.
  • The opportunity to work with passionate, high-growth, business-minded colleagues who bring their all to our mission each and every day.
  • All other benefits and insurances as required by law, based on your specific country of residence.

About Athletic Greens

AG1, formerly known as Athletic Greens, embarked on its journey in 2010, born from founder Chris Ashenden's personal health struggles and a desire to simplify comprehensive nutrition. Faced with the challenge of his own body not properly absorbing nutrients and the daunting task of taking around 50 pills daily, Ashenden envisioned a single, all-encompassing supplement. This vision materialized as AG1, a powder designed to combine the benefits of multivitamins, probiotics, and whole-food sourced nutrients into one daily serving. The company started with a direct-to-consumer, subscription-based model, focusing on its flagship product, AG1. Early on, Ashenden adopted a unique marketing approach, targeting health influencers rather than relying on traditional advertising, a strategy that proved pivotal to the brand's initial ascent.

Despite early financial challenges, including significant personal debt for Ashenden, Athletic Greens steadily grew, bootstrapping its way to impressive revenue figures. The company operated as a fully remote business from its inception, a model it maintains today with a global team. A significant turning point came in 2021 and 2022, when Athletic Greens secured its first major external funding rounds, culminating in a $115 million investment that valued the company at $1.2 billion. This influx of capital was earmarked for scaling operations, product innovation, expanding geographic reach, and bolstering marketing efforts. The product itself has undergone numerous iterations, with the company emphasizing continuous improvement based on the latest scientific research. In 2023, the company officially rebranded from Athletic Greens to AG1, aligning the company name with its singular, well-known product and signaling its evolution beyond a simple 'greens' powder. Kat Cole, who joined as President and COO in 2021, was appointed CEO in July 2024, succeeding Ashenden who remains on the board. Today, AG1 continues to focus on its mission of empowering people to take ownership of their health through foundational nutrition, with its core product AG1 at the forefront of its offerings.
