Lead Software Engineer (Mobile Applications) | Lead Native App Developer | Porto, Portugal

👑 The Role:
Lead a cross-functional mobile engineering squad, spending ~40% of your time hands-on in code. The rest will focus on both technical and people leadership—setting direction, mentoring, and enabling your team to thrive. 🛠️ Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver performant mobile applications across iOS and Android using React Native
  • Set mobile development standards, balancing cross-platform consistency with native optimisation
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines tailored for app store release and deployment
  • Mentor your team through code reviews, pair programming, and personal development initiatives
  • Drive technical standards and engineering culture across the wider organisation

🧩 You Bring:

  • 8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years leading teams
  • Deep experience in React Native, iOS/Android development, and mobile DevOps
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD, app store release cycles, and platform-specific best practices
  • Proven success in agile, cross-functional, product-led environments
  • Deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle—from backlog to release and support
  • Commitment to growth—for yourself and your team
  • Ability to work effectively in English within a multicultural, international team
  • If you don’t meet every requirement but you’re passionate about the role and excited to grow with us—please apply. We’re interested in your potential as much as your credentials.

🧰 Our Tech Environment:

  • React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript, MySQL
  • Firebase, Expo, AWS Cloud Infrastructure
  • CI/CD pipelines with trunk-based development and feature flags

🗓️ Interview Process:
Expect the process to take 2–3 weeks, but we’re flexible and respect your schedule. It includes:
1. Initial exploration call (30 min) with a member of our tech recruitment team
2. Technical assessment (90 min) completed at your convenience

3. Three-stage interview:

 • Culture and delivery discussion (30 min)
 • Pair programming and whiteboarding (90 min)
 • Behavioural and situational interview (60 min)

🔑 Our Philosophy:
We value principles over buzzwords and pragmatic solutions over perfection. We believe in meaningful in-person collaboration paired with the autonomy to do your best work—wherever you are.

📣 Let’s build something meaningful together.
If you’ve lived the difference between engineering theory and practice, can deliver design and build projects with minimal supervision, and know when to refine vs. when to ship—we want to talk to you.

Here at Atheneum, diversity and inclusion is not just part of our culture, it is ingrained in our DNA. We do not discriminate in any way when assessing applications.
