As the VP/GM of Multinational (MN) Client Management and Sales you will have primary responsibility for building influential and visible relationships with our clients, maintaining a detailed understanding of their businesses and industries, and mastering an insight-led consultative approach that clearly demonstrates the American Express Global Business Travel value proposition and differentiated offering.

This role is crafted to be fully client-facing, with travel to client settings required on average 40-60% of the time in order to serve as the senior-most advisor to the client.

This senior advisor will use their broad experience across the entire client portfolio to provide insights on how to best bring the needs and perceptions of the client back into the organization, act as client advocate and voice within American Express, GBT to drive needed improvements, and demonstrate value to the entire web-of-influence and help them navigate towards optimized results.

You will also set the tone and direction across the internal North America Multinational Sales and Client Management team. The Vice President will lead strategy development at the account level for both existing clients and potential new clients, translate that strategy into specific and actionable plans for Directors to implement, lead the annual target setting process for all financial and soft metrics, incorporate gap closing analysis into monthly Director portfolio reviews, and proactively seeking opportunities to engage Blue Box partners to improve value to both the client and American Express, GBT.

You will be accountable for every aspect of the client P&L, and will stay focused on the customer and subsequently monetize the increased dedication that results, drive all categories of premium revenue spend, champion deeper executive relationships between the client and Blue Box, protect transactional fees and margins, and handle profitability through firm, fair pricing.

The Vice President is also responsible for driving innovation in our servicing platforms to improve customer value while also crafting operational efficiencies.

Responsible for:

  • Building a vertical and horizontal web of influence for each client and prospect at the senior level, with consistent record influencing c-suite executives.

  • Developing strategy for MN existing clients and potential new clients, including annual execution of an insight-based diagnostic, analysis and action plan against key industry metrics tailored to each individual client’s/prospect's business priorities and objectives.

  • Owning various critical initiatives, ensuring relevance at the client level and driving revenue to GBT

  • Acquiring a deep understanding of the Business Travel marketplace, including competitive offerings, suppliers, trends, risks and opportunities.

  • Providing insights, direction and mentoring to the Director and Manager teams to facilitate effective oversight of all client accounts and realize company objectives

Experience and skills:

  • 10+ years global account/client management, sales and/or consulting experience

  • Excellent client leadership skills and track record, and highly developed negotiation skills with the ability to retain and expand business to drive growth and competitive advantage.

  • Ability to reframe and challenge the way customers view their businesses, aligning insights to key customer priorities and tying those insights back to our unique differentiators.

  • Keenly track economic and industry activity and understands its implications on customer business, including potential new business opportunities with the ability to educate customers on industry trends and standard methodologies adopted by peer companies.

  • Consistent track record engaging and influencing c-suite and other senior executives.

  • Understands the difference between an insight-led approach and a relationship-based service mentality, and has the expertise and comfort level to challenge the client when it will better demonstrate the valuable contributions of American Express Business Travel.

  • Experience leading a successful, highly motivated team and demonstrated success in establishing strategic vision, target goals and action plans, especially in a virtual environment.

  • Ability to thrive in a matrixed organization with limited resources, coordinating and securing consensus from internal and external partners.

  • Demonstrated expertise in effecting organizational progress across a team

  • Ability to run internal and external partnerships and swiftly adapt to different client personalities and challenges

  • Analytical, financial, process and problem solving skills applied to business issues achieving significant shareholder gains.

  • Previous large market, multinational or global client experience required.

  • MBA strongly preferred

The US national annual base salary range for this position is from $240,000 to $285,000. The national range provided includes the base salary that GBT expects to pay for the role. Actual base salary will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for our Annual Incentive Award (AIA) plan, which rewards participants based on company and individual performance, and is also eligible for our Equity Incentive Plan (EIP).
