THE ROLE

The Senior Software Engineer sits at the intersection of exchange connectivity, execution and market data for 3iQ’s trading technology team. You will own the trading core, including order and execution management, exchange integrations and market data pipelines, which risk, the ledger and our client apps all build on. You will be a hands-on builder and an owner: designing, building, deploying and operating what you ship, sharing in the on-call rotation for systems that trade 24/7, and helping set the technical standard for how we build as we scale.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

• Design and evolve the core trading architecture for throughput, latency and failure isolation

• Build and maintain venue gateways over REST, WebSocket and FIX: order entry, cancels, amendments and drop copy
• Own order and execution management: one order per client, client order IDs aligned with the venue, no missed or hidden trades
• Run market data ingestion and normalization across 10,000+ instruments, with redundancy and failover between feeds and gateways
• Automate the instrument lifecycle: listing, delisting, expiries and option rotations
• Onboard new venues and instrument types, and absorb their quirks so clients never see them
• Be the technical reference for the engineers building risk, ledger and client apps on top of the core
• Lead incident response on the trading path, and write the runbooks so others can too

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• 7+ years building production backend systems, with at least 3 in trading, market infrastructure or exchange connectivity
• Deep experience with exchange or broker APIs (REST, WebSocket, FIX), order lifecycles and market data
• Strong command of a systems or backend language used in production trading, such as C++, Rust, Java or Go
• Solid distributed systems fundamentals: concurrency, idempotency, back-pressure, failover and consistency
• Experience designing for high message rates (tens of thousands per second and up) at millisecond latency
• A track record of owning a production system end to end, including on-call for a 24/7 market
• Clear written and spoken English

NICE TO HAVE

• Crypto derivatives: perpetuals, funding, options lifecycle, margin and liquidation on Binance, Deribit or similar

• OMS/EMS or smart order routing experience
• Functional programming or JVM experience (Clojure, Scala, Kotlin)
• Experience leading architecture decisions across several teams
