Job Opportunity: Sr. DevOps Engineer
What we are looking for:
Senior DevOps Engineer on a 6-month contract (with possible extension) to lead the transformation of our software delivery process from ad-hoc and manual to automated, reliable, and repeatable. You will stand up CI/CD pipelines, define our environment strategy, and establish the engineering foundation our product teams will build on going forward.
This is a focused, high-impact engagement with executive support and a concrete backlog waiting for you. We know where we are today — an inconsistent, largely manual release process — and we know where we need to go. We need a senior practitioner who has personally made that journey before and can make meaningful, durable progress inside a six-month window.
If you enjoy walking into chaos, delivering something engineers trust, and leaving behind documentation and systems that outlive the engagement, this contract is for you.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of hands-on DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering experience.
- Proven track record of taking a manual release process and turning it into a modern automated CI/CD pipeline. You should be able to walk us through at least one company where you did this end-to-end, what the "before" looked like, what you built, and what the measurable outcome was (deployment frequency, lead time, incident rate, etc.).
- Deep experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines in production environments, ideally with GitLab CI/CD.
- Strong infrastructure-as-code skills using Terraform and Ansible, with experience building reproducible environments across dev, staging, and production.
- Expertise with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Firestore, API Gateway, Cloud Build) and/or comparable experience on another major cloud with willingness to ramp on GCP.
- Experience with Docker and multi-container orchestration (Docker Swarm or Kubernetes).
- Comfortable operating across a polyglot stack — we run PHP/Laravel (with Laravel Octane), Node.js/TypeScript, and Python services and you'll need to reason about build and deploy for all of them.
- Experience configuring and tuning Nginx as a reverse proxy and web server.
- Experience with OAuth and modern authentication/authorization patterns.
- Experience with centralized logging (Graylog, ELK, or similar), cloud-native logging (GCP Cloud Logging), and setting up meaningful alerting.
- Experience with incident response and on-call rotations.
- Strong written and verbal communication — you'll be setting standards that other engineers follow.
Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience with HashiCorp Vault or equivalent secrets management, and a track record of remediating bad secrets hygiene.
- Experience with agentic DevOps or AI-assisted DevOps workflows. This is an emerging area where AI agents are used to automate pipeline work — tasks like generating and maintaining CI/CD configs, triaging failed builds, reviewing PRs in-pipeline, translating legacy deployment artifacts, and remediating security findings. If you've built or operated workflows like these, we want to hear about it.
- Experience using Claude Code (or comparable agentic coding tools) as part of a DevOps workflow — for example, integrated into GitLab CI for automated PR reviews, pipeline generation, or infrastructure code maintenance. This is not required, but candidates with real hands-on experience here will have a meaningful edge, and will have the opportunity to shape how we adopt these tools across the organization.
- Experience being the first or among the first DevOps hires at a company.
- Background scaling engineering practices at a company going through rapid growth or platform modernization.
