Paul Spears

I hold a Master of Science in Computer Science (Indiana University, 2017) and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Physics (Michigan State University, 2014).

I build and maintain backend frameworks and APIs, most recently delivering health insurance benefit analysis tooling in Java while supporting services in Clojure, Java, Python, and Ruby. I have productionalized Python code into customer-facing APIs and developed ordered-risk assessment APIs for security products.

I architect scalable data solutions, including automated updates for predictive models using Python and H2O, and an automatic-scaling batch system on AWS to process very large client files. I’ve integrated ETL pipelines with S3, EC2, Data Pipeline, Jenkins, Redshift, MySQL, and Snowflake.

I emphasize solid documentation, client communication, and maintainability—writing process docs and client guides, debugging complex systems, and converting legacy Java systems into more maintainable Clojure services. I seek challenging work where I can deliver reliable, scalable systems and clear technical guidance.
