Carmen Garcia

I've conducted public health research at San José State University, focusing on human health, health equity, and community wellness. I created and collected survey data to identify public health gaps affecting underserved communities.

As a Nurse Family Partnership intern with the County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency, I coordinated in-home visits with Public Health Nurses supporting first-time, low-income parents through pregnancy and early childhood. I also volunteered at local outreach events connecting families to maternal and child health services.

I've supported campus safety with SJSU Emergency Services and the University Police Department by promoting emergency resources and learning Alert SJSU operations and university crisis protocols.

My earlier work as a preschool and infant lead teacher strengthened my ability to support children and families through responsive caregiving, curriculum development, daily communication, and inclusive learning environments. I'm bilingual in English and Spanish.
