Role Overview
As an Analyst on the [$COMPANY_NAME] venture capital investment team, you will source, evaluate, and underwrite early-stage technology investments across enterprise SaaS, fintech, and digital-health sectors. Working directly with Partners, you will build proprietary deal flow, run bottoms-up TAM analyses, build detailed financial and operating models, and present investment memos to the Investment Committee. This high-impact role offers a fast-track to Associate for top performers who demonstrate exceptional analytical rigor, network-building prowess, and sound investment judgment.
Responsibilities
- Screen 200+ inbound deals per quarter, triaging within 48 hours using clear go/no-go criteria mapped to fund mandate
- Build sector maps and thematic research reports (e.g., vertical AI agents, embedded finance) to guide thesis-driven outbound sourcing
- Perform primary due-diligence: customer calls, expert-network interviews, and competitive benchmarking using tools like PitchBook, CB Insights, and Harmonic
- Construct three-statement financial models, cap-table waterfalls, and scenario-based return analyses (MOIC/IRR) for Seed to Series B opportunities
- Draft 15-page investment memos covering market size, product differentiation, GTM efficiency, and key risks; present to IC and defend assumptions
- Support portfolio companies with KPI dashboards, follow-on round data rooms, and ad-hoc strategic projects (pricing studies, cohort analyses)
- Track and report individual pipeline metrics—sourced deals, partner meetings, IC approvals—via Affinity CRM weekly
Required Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in investment banking, management consulting, or high-growth startup operations with demonstrable analytical horsepower
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, computer science, or related quantitative discipline; minimum 3.5 GPA or equivalent
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint / Google Slides skills; ability to build dynamic models and concise, data-driven narratives
- Working knowledge of venture capital terminology: pre-money valuation, liquidation preference, pro-rata, dilution, ESOP, etc.
- Strong network mindset—comfort cold-emailing founders and attending meetups to generate proprietary pipeline
- Authorization to work in [$COMPANY_LOCATION] without sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or full-time role at a venture capital fund, growth equity firm, or tech-focused PE shop
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, or R for data scraping and statistical analysis (e.g., Monte-Carlo simulations on churn distributions)
- Experience writing Substack/Twitter threads or market maps that showcase original insights on emerging tech trends
- Founder or early-operator experience at a venture-scalable startup; empathy for entrepreneurial journeys
- Series 7/63 licenses or CFA Level I passed (not required but indicative of technical competency)
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Financial modeling: three-statement, LTV/CAC, cohort retention, usage-based SaaS waterfalls
- Data platforms: PitchBook, Crunchbase, CB Insights, Harmonic, Affinity, Notion, Tableau, Looker
- Cap-table management tools: Carta, Pulley, Shareworks
- Communication: Slack, Zoom, Figma (for mock dashboards), Google Workspace
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Intellectual curiosity—habitually asks “why” and challenges consensus with data
- High velocity bias: ships analyses in hours, not days; comfortable with 80/20 approximations
- Low ego, high helpfulness—willing to build tear sheets for teammates and celebrate collective wins
- Resilience to rejection: >90% of sourced deals will pass; maintains enthusiasm and iterates sourcing strategy
- Ethical integrity—zero tolerance for insider trading, misrepresentation, or careless NDAs
