Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Special Education Bus Driver to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students with special needs. This role is critical in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for our students, while also leading a team of drivers to uphold the highest standards of safety and service.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of special education bus drivers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of buses to ensure operational safety and maintenance.
- Develop and implement schedules for transportation routes that accommodate the needs of students, parents, and schools.
- Communicate effectively with parents, school officials, and students to address transportation needs and concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of daily transportation activities, including student attendance and safety incidents.
- Provide direct support to students with special needs during boarding, transportation, and disembarkation, ensuring a comfortable and safe journey.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, demonstrating effective problem-solving skills.
Required Qualifications
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transportation.
- At least 3 years of experience driving buses, with a strong emphasis on safety and compliance.
- Experience working with students with special needs or in a similar capacity.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and school staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in first aid and CPR.
- Familiarity with special education laws and regulations governing transportation.
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a transportation setting.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using GPS and routing software to optimize transportation routes.
- Ability to maintain detailed records and reports using standard office software.
