Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Hurricane Tracker to join our cutting-edge meteorological team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of advanced tracking systems that utilize real-time data analytics, satellite imagery, and predictive modeling to assess and report on hurricane activity. Your expertise will be critical in enhancing our capabilities to deliver timely and accurate information to communities at risk.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and deployment of innovative tracking systems, integrating meteorological data sources and machine learning algorithms for improved accuracy in hurricane predictions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine data collection methods and establish protocols for real-time data analysis.
- Develop comprehensive reports and visualizations to communicate complex hurricane behavior and forecasts to stakeholders and the public.
- Mentor junior meteorologists and data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.
- Conduct post-storm analysis to assess tracking accuracy and drive improvements in forecasting methodologies.
- Engage with local and national emergency management agencies to provide expert guidance on hurricane preparedness and response strategies.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in hurricane tracking and forecasting, with a proven track record of utilizing advanced meteorological models.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and visualization.
- Experience with GIS tools and satellite data interpretation.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in Meteorology or a related field.
- Published research in peer-reviewed journals on hurricane forecasting or related topics.
- Experience working with large datasets and cloud computing platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in meteorological modeling software and tools (e.g., WRF, GFS, HWRF).
- Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Matplotlib).
- Strong understanding of remote sensing technologies and their applications in meteorology.
