Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Drama Department to lead our vibrant team dedicated to fostering creativity and excellence in performing arts. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping the curriculum, guiding student performances, and enhancing the overall educational experience in drama. Your leadership will inspire both students and faculty while driving innovative programming that aligns with our institution's mission.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Drama Department, overseeing curriculum development, performance opportunities, and faculty professional development
- Inspire and mentor faculty members, fostering a collaborative and creative environment
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance participation in drama programs and performances
- Coordinate and direct major productions, including casting, rehearsal schedules, and production design
- Ensure the department is aligned with the institution's educational goals and standards
- Act as a spokesperson for the department, promoting programs to students, parents, and the community
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback to support their growth in the performing arts
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Theatre, Drama, Education, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in teaching drama and leading performing arts programs
- Proven track record of successful production management and direction
- Strong understanding of drama pedagogy and curriculum development
Preferred:
- Experience in a leadership role within an educational institution
- Demonstrated ability to engage with the community and build partnerships
- Experience with both traditional and contemporary theatrical practices
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in stage production techniques, including lighting, sound, and set design
- Familiarity with digital tools for rehearsals and performances
- Knowledge of contemporary theatre practices and methodologies
