As Aotearoa New Zealand's largest and leading university, we celebrate our unique position in the Pacific and our dedication to shaping a better future for our communities and the world. Our Māori name, Waipapa Taumata Rau, gifted by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, beautifully encapsulates our essence as a 'place of many peaks' – a place where diverse worldviews converge, and lifelong journeys of inquiry, learning, and service commence. We are guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / The Treaty of Waitangi, which deeply informs our character and our engagement with our communities. Our mission is to inspire and empower individuals to develop ideas, knowledge, and skills that not only shape their personal and professional growth but also advance Aotearoa New Zealand's prosperity and contribute positively to the global economy and society.

Our values of respect, integrity, excellence, and service are not just words; they are actively lived through our behaviours and actions. We foster an environment of open intellectual inquiry, encouraging critical thinking, courageous speech, and robust debate. Collaboration is key to our success, and we believe in working together – with our students, staff, alumni, and partners – to achieve greatness and redefine what a university can be. We are deeply committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, striving to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where everyone, from all backgrounds and walks of life, feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive. This commitment extends to our extensive support services for all students, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed academically and personally. With a student population representing over 120 countries, we embrace the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our university, creating a truly global and inclusive learning environment. Our dedication to sustainability is also paramount, as we actively work towards making a positive social impact through our research, teaching, operations, and community engagement.
