Overview
Third Plateau manages the Democracy Communications Collaborative (DCC), which empowers pro-democracy forces across the ideological spectrum to build durable public support for liberal democracy and democratic values through communications. The Deputy Communications Director will report to the DCC’s Communications Director.

The Deputy Communications Director will advise and support a network of 100+ DCC partner organizations dedicated to protecting and improving American democracy. The Deputy Director will collaborate with colleagues, partner organizations, and vendors to develop shared resources for pro-democracy communicators, including both public opinion research and messaging.
Top candidates will have experience executing persuasion campaigns, working with public opinion research, and managing vendors. They will possess strong facilitation, writing, and problem-solving skills, thrive with a high degree of independence, and help maintain a collegial and collaborative team culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Communication & Message Research
Manage the day-to-day work of an ongoing public opinion research program that includes regular surveys and focus groups, working with Partners to understand the field’s communication and information needs, and collaborating with the DCC’s research vendor and Communication Director to design research that meets those needs
Oversee the design and delivery of regular briefings on the DCC’s research and related communication guidance to partners and field allies
Support the practical implementation of research findings by DCC Partners, interpreting results, socializing findings, and helping Partners apply those findings to their work
Content & Message Development
Work with the Communication Director to develop messaging and communication guidance that provides strategic and tactical insights to a diverse field
Manage the DCC’s forthcoming email program, drafting a weekly product that socializes and explains DCC research and messaging, provides examples of content to amplify, and uplifts strong communication efforts from the field
Partner Stewardship & Coordination
Working closely with the Organizing and Communications Directors, assist the team’s efforts to onboard, support, and organize a broad and diverse coalition of organizations and stakeholders
Facilitate and enable, with expert guidance and resources, coordinated audience-first communication campaigns led by DCC Partners
Support the DCC’s work to provide Partners with professional development opportunities and capacity-building support for communication
Organizational Stewardship
Stay up to date on current events and thinking in communications and the democracy field more broadly
Tend to internal administrative items (e.g., emails/slack, timekeeping, expenses, HR)
Participate in internal activities (i.e., full team meetings, peer learning communities, culture building activities, and regular check-ins with your supervisor)
Engage in individual and team wide professional development/learning opportunities
Mentor and advise less experienced staff
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
7+ years of professional experience, including experience developing and implementing communication campaigns
Excellent project management and interpersonal skills
Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to lead large and small planning sessions and trainings
A strong understanding of the modern American political, news, and content environment
Be an organized self-starter able to prioritize and juggle multiple assignments
Candidates should be comfortable working alongside people with whom they may have deep disagreements, be able to be transparent about their own beliefs without being restricted by them, and be willing to invest in building bridges and finding common ground
The ability to engage in limited travel (up to 15%) for client work and team retreats
