Job Responsibilities
This employee will serve as a technician for Region 1 Heritage Preserves and will be tasked with performing necessary sampling, trapping, reporting and management activities as needed.

Job Duties Include:
  • Conducting and assisting with management activities for Region 1 Heritage Preserves.
  • Assisting manager and upstate botanist with rare plant and monitoring of Region 1 Heritage Preserve Properties.
  • Assisting biologists with state-wide game and non-game wildlife surveys in Region 1 as opportunities arise.
  • Performing other related duties, as required, in cooperation with other WFF and LE staff. This work will vary with need but may include assisting in unloading materials, installing or repairing gates and transporting supplies.
  • Maintaining all Department issued equipment and completing all mandatory reporting.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences.

Ability to obtain a South Carolina Pesticide Applicator license.
Preferred Qualifications

Class A CDL license preferred. Ability to lift heavy objects and operate a chainsaw, 4WD vehicle, winch and power tools, brushmower and tractor. Ability to identify and handle game/non-game fauna and native/non-native flora. Experience with a GPS and computer applications that include Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint is desirable. Ability to work alone under challenging conditions. Ability to communicate effectively with the public. Good record keeping skills and ability to work with volunteers.
