OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

The Foundation of What We Believe
As a Christian organization, Prison Fellowship believes in the full authority of the Bible as God’s inspired word and the complete tenets of the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

We believe in one God, Creator and Lord of the Universe, the co-eternal Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died a substitutionary atoning death on the cross, rose bodily from the dead and ascended to heaven where, as truly God and truly man, He is the only mediator between God and man. We believe that the Bible is God’s authoritative and inspired Word, without error in all its teachings.

How We Are Compelled to Live and to Act
We believe that Christians, both individually and corporately, must submit to the Bible as God’s authoritative, divine and inspired Word, in all matters of belief and conduct.

About Prison Fellowship

At the heart of Prison Fellowship is a profound belief in restoration and the transformative power of faith. The organization's culture is deeply rooted in the conviction that every individual is created in the image of God and that no life is beyond the reach of His grace. This ethos originated with founder Charles W. Colson, who, after his own incarceration, envisioned a ministry that would not only bring the hope of the Gospel to those behind bars but also advocate for a justice system that restores. This foundational mission continues to animate the team, creating a community of passionate individuals dedicated to serving prisoners, former prisoners, and their families. The culture is one of encounter—encountering Jesus alongside the incarcerated, recognizing their inherent dignity, and walking with them on a journey of renewal. It's a commitment to replacing the cycle of crime with a cycle of restoration, a belief that fuels the daily work of staff and thousands of volunteers across the nation.

The team at Prison Fellowship is united by a shared calling to live out the principles of justice and mercy. This isn't just a job; it's a ministry driven by a deep sense of purpose. The organization fosters a supportive and collaborative environment where employees are encouraged to grow both professionally and spiritually. This is reflected in their commitment to providing resources for leadership development and training. The narrative of Prison Fellowship is one of hope, redemption, and second chances. From advocating for bipartisan criminal justice reforms like the FIRST STEP Act to mobilizing local churches through the Angel Tree program to care for the children of incarcerated parents, the organization's work is holistic and community-focused. It's a culture that doesn't just see the brokenness of the present but looks forward with faith to a future where communities are safer, families are reconciled, and those who were once defined by their past are empowered to build a new, hope-filled legacy.
