The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a specialized professional, who possesses a strong working knowledge of cloud technologies, and is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and managing moderate to complex cloud infrastructure, supporting enterprise operations. This role involves working with approved cloud platforms to develop and deploy robust, automated, scalable, reliable, and secure environments tailored to specific needs of the business using DevOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles. This role implements systems that are optimized, performant, cost-efficient, and secure, enabling entire organizations to safely leverage cloud technologies. This role implements and supports our internal AI Services.

This is a telecommuter position, working from home.

What you’ll do:

  • Advise and act as a resource for complex systems projects, evaluate requirements, and ensure work aligns with overall systems strategy and direction.

  • Proactively conceptualize and champion high-value business solutions in anticipation of customers’ needs; implement new cloud solutions.

  • Maintain regular contact with customer departments (cross-org) throughout the development lifecycle to ensure cloud infrastructure is efficiently utilized.

  • Provide mentorship, orientation, guidance, best practices, techniques, documentation, and training to junior/advanced engineers for all relevant cloud technologies.

  • Navigate the appropriate maintenance schedules for system upgrades and safely decommission/retire outdated systems.

  • Design, implement, and support the company's internal AI services.

  • Consult and support AI Engineers.

  • Develop and build automation for new systems solutions for complex, integrated systems, develop standards and requirements for system alignment and incorporate best practices, and review and provide feedback on solutions developed by outside teams for implications on other systems.

  • Implement cloud infrastructure/platform solutions, including enabling enterprise cloud services, network configurations, compute/storage, and other services.

  • Define, drive, and implement available cloud services for customers that demonstrate alignment with business goals.

  • Identify trends and requirements for future system operational and functional needs to determine support requirements as well as purchasing efforts.

  • Serve as an advanced technical resource for moderate to complex system projects, evaluate requirements, and ensure work aligns with overall project plan.

  • Ensure scalability, performance, and reliability of cloud infrastructure to meet future customer demands and to perform efficiently under varying loads.

  • Develop integration tools for existing on-prem systems migrating to cloud services (e.g., equivalent services) including identifying dependencies and tools for seamless interoperability.

  • Implement various full-stack deployment capabilities that leverage automation Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and deployment pipelines for cloud and infrastructure services (e.g., virtual machines, storage solutions, services, databases, network, etc.).

  • Leverage automation to configure cloud services to meet specific needs of the enterprise and reduce cognitive load including service optimization, performance, templates, capacity, cost efficiency, and security.

  • Prepare modules with complex integration considerations for production and design and build automated deployment pipelines to the cloud platform for continuous and proactive maintenance, monitoring/alerting of service performance for cloud operations to stay current and identify and address potential standard or interoperability issues before impacting business operations.

  • Lead design and development of processes and tools to improve long-term performance and capacity of cloud systems, review implications of multiple inter-related processes, and identify opportunities to optimize performance, capacity, and increase automation.

  • Design, build, and implement secure and compliant cloud solutions via automation (DevSecOps/SecDevOps) including reusable components, configuring complex, integrated solutions to protect cloud infrastructure and customer data (e.g., firewalls, encryption, identity and access management, intrusion detection, cloud governance, etc.).

What you’ll bring:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or (4) years of work experience.

  • (6) years of applicable systems engineering or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of AI (Artificial Intelligence) platform services that enable AI services for the enterprise.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced skill in cloud design and operations including system optimizations: automation, scaling, right-sizing, resiliency, availability, multi-region.

  • Advanced skill in networking concepts including VPNs, firewalls, load balancing, vnets/subnets, and network security.

  • Ability to analyze data to make informed decisions about cloud services and resource management.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues within cloud and on-prem environments.

  • Ability to understand business objectives and aligning cloud plans to support these goals.

  • Ability to manage budgets and implement cost-saving measures while ensuring cloud services deliver value and remain operational.

  • Effective communication skills to explain moderate to complex, technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and/or to collaborate with various teams; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

  • Advanced skill of cloud scripting languages, interfaces, and technologies such as: PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Bicep, Kubecutal, JavaScript, Bash, Kusto, Kubernetes, CLI (command line), code repository, static code analysis, deployment pipelines, continuous integration continuous delivery/deploy (CICD), YAML, as well as Windows and Linux administration.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and execute demonstrations, providing leadership and guidance to achieve common goals.

  • Advanced skill of planning and financial operations (FinOps) cloud cost management including cost efficiency and/or reduction (e.g., orphaned resources, overprovisioned, anomalies, reserved instances, etc.) budgeting, and contract management.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.

The salary range for this role is posted below; we generally target up to and around the midpoint of the range.

National Salary Range:

$118,900.00 - $202,100.00

National Plus Salary Range:

$135,600.00 - $230,500.00

*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
