As an SEO Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role in transforming SEO and marketing operations through AI, automation, and systems thinking. Rather than focusing on traditional manual SEO execution, you’ll design scalable workflows, build automation systems, and create operational leverage through AI-native tooling and technical problem-solving.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguous environments, enjoys building systems from scratch, and approaches operational inefficiencies with an automation-first mindset. You’ll work closely with leadership to improve execution velocity, reduce repetitive work, and create scalable internal systems that support long-term growth.
Accountability
Our success as an SEO Automation Engineer will be defined by your ability to design scalable operational systems, automate repetitive workflows, and improve execution efficiency across SEO and marketing operations.
Here’s how you’ll make an impact:
AI & Automation Workflow Development
- Build and maintain automation systems that streamline SEO and marketing operations.
- Design repeatable workflows that reduce manual execution and improve scalability.
- Leverage AI tools and agentic workflows to improve operational efficiency and execution speed.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and proactively implement automation-driven solutions.
- Continuously refine workflows to improve reliability, speed, and output quality.
Technical Systems & Workflow Engineering
- Develop and maintain browser automation and web scraping workflows.
- Work with APIs, structured datasets, and automation tooling to connect systems and improve data flow.
- Troubleshoot and optimize workflows using programming logic and systems thinking.
- Support Git/GitHub-based workflows and collaborate on technical implementations where required.
- Build operational systems that balance practicality, scalability, and maintainability.
SEO Operations & Process Optimization
- Support scalable local SEO and digital marketing execution systems.
- Help automate operational processes related to SEO, PPC, and marketing workflows.
- Improve execution consistency through process design and systems thinking.
- Structure ambiguous operational tasks into organized, repeatable systems.
Operational Ownership & Execution
- Operate independently with minimal oversight while managing multiple competing priorities.
- Translate high-level goals into structured workflows and actionable execution plans.
- Surface blockers proactively and propose solutions that reduce management overhead.
- Maintain momentum in fast-moving environments without relying on rigid SOPs or constant direction.
Colleagues
You’ll work closely with leadership and operational stakeholders to design systems that improve execution capacity and operational scale. You’ll also collaborate with technical and marketing contributors where needed to support workflow implementation and automation initiatives.
At Oceans, you’ll also receive guidance and support from your Operations Manager, who will help you succeed in the role and ensure that you’re continuously growing and developing in your career.
Skills & Qualifications
At Oceans, we believe in T-shaped individuals—those who bring deep expertise in one area paired with broad curiosity across systems, workflows, and operations. As an SEO Automation Engineer, your vertical focus will be on automation architecture and technical systems-building, while your horizontal strengths will include operational thinking, AI adoption, and scalable workflow design.
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Experience: 3–6+ years of experience in automation engineering, technical operations, SEO systems, workflow automation, growth operations, or related technical execution environments. Experience in startup, agency, or fast-moving operational settings is strongly preferred.
- Automation & AI Fluency: Strong hands-on experience using AI-assisted workflows, automation tooling, and agentic systems in real operational contexts. Comfortable working with tools such as Claude, Codex, browser automation frameworks, and AI-native operational tooling.
- Systems Thinking: Proven ability to turn ambiguous requirements into structured, scalable workflows and operational systems. Strong problem-solving capability with a focus on reducing complexity and increasing operational leverage.
- Technical Capability: Familiarity with APIs, web scraping, browser automation, structured datasets, Git/GitHub workflows, and basic programming or scripting logic. SQL or data handling exposure is a plus.
- SEO & Marketing Operations Understanding: Exposure to local SEO, digital marketing operations, PPC workflows, or technical marketing systems is helpful, though systems-building and automation capability are more important than traditional SEO execution experience.
- Execution & Ownership: Highly proactive with the ability to self-manage priorities, identify inefficiencies independently, and maintain execution momentum without heavy oversight.
- Communication & Adaptability: Strong written communication skills with the ability to surface blockers early, explain technical concepts clearly, and collaborate effectively in fast-paced environments.
Diversity of experience is core to Oceans. You are expected to work inclusively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, ensuring that both personal and collective dignity are supported.
During the interview process, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your skills in the following areas:
- Automation & Workflow Design: How you build scalable systems that improve operational efficiency.
- Systems Thinking & Problem-Solving: How you structure ambiguity into repeatable workflows.
- AI-Native Execution: How you use AI tools and automation in real-world operational contexts.
- Technical Reasoning: How you troubleshoot systems, APIs, automation logic, or technical workflows.
- Ownership & Initiative: How you independently identify problems and drive execution forward.
- Adaptability & Learning Agility: How you navigate unfamiliar systems and rapidly evolving environments.
