About the Company
Our client is a specialist strategy and public policy consultancy headquartered in London, working exclusively with central and local government clients across the UK and internationally. With a reputation for rigorous analysis and pragmatic advice, they work at the highest levels of government on the most complex strategic and delivery challenges. The team is small, senior, and growing, with a pipeline of mandates spanning defence, health, economic development, and justice.
The Role
As Government Strategy Advisor, you will lead client engagements and advisory relationships across a portfolio of central government departments. You will bring strategic rigour and policy expertise to bear on some of the most consequential questions in UK public policy, from spending reviews and departmental strategy to major programme delivery and machinery of government reform.
What You'll Do
Lead strategic advisory workstreams for senior government clients, including Permanent Secretaries, Directors General, and Ministers.
Produce high-quality analysis, strategy documents, and policy recommendations tailored to the political and operational realities of government.
Build deep, trusted relationships with senior civil servants and maintain an active understanding of the political and policy landscape.
Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities within existing client relationships and supporting proposals for new mandates.
Mentor junior advisors and contribute to the firm's thought leadership and intellectual development.
What We're Looking For
7–12 years of experience in public policy, civil service, management consulting (public sector practice), or a senior government advisory role.
Excellent understanding of how the central government works, including Ministerial accountability, HMT processes, and cross-departmental working.
Outstanding written communication, able to draft Ministerial submissions, strategy documents, and board papers to the highest standard.
Political judgement and sensitivity, comfortable navigating complex stakeholder environments with discretion.
Existing relationships within Whitehall or HM Government is a significant advantage.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary of £90,000 – £120,000, depending on experience.
Profit share and performance-based bonus.
