Telehealth Correctional PMHNP - F/T

MindCare Solutions is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our dynamic team on a full-time basis. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide advanced psychiatric care to incarcerated individuals in a correctional setting. This role is responsible for psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, medication management, crisis intervention, and ongoing treatment planning for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. The PMHNP works collaboratively with medical, mental health, and custody staff within a structured, security-driven environment. Candidates must hold an active PMHNP license in Texas and/or California.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Psychiatric Assessment & Treatment

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mental status exams, and diagnostic assessments for incarcerated population.
  • Identify and diagnose mental health and co‑occurring substance use disorders
  • Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans based on clinical need

Medication Management

  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications within state scope‑of‑practice guidelines
  • Monitor therapeutic effectiveness, side effects, compliance, and potential misuse or diversion
  • Coordinate with nursing staff to ensure safe medication administration

Crisis Intervention & Risk Management

  • Evaluate inmates experiencing psychiatric crises, including suicidal or self‑harm behaviors
  • Perform suicide risk assessments and determine appropriate levels of observation and care
  • Participate in emergency response and stabilization of acute psychiatric conditions

Therapeutic Services

  • Provide brief counseling, supportive therapy, and psychoeducation
  • Address adjustment to incarceration, trauma, mood disorders, psychosis, and behavioral dysregulation
  • Promote emotional stabilization and coping strategies

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and correctional staff
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and case reviews
  • Provide consultation and guidance on mental health concerns affecting inmate behavior

Legal, Ethical & Documentation Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant clinical documentation
  • Adhere to correctional healthcare regulations, policies, and accreditation standards (e.g., NCCHC, ACA)
  • Uphold patient confidentiality while ensuring institutional safety
  • Provide reports or testimony as required

Continuity of Care & Reentry Planning

  • Assist with discharge and reentry planning for inmates nearing release
  • Coordinate referrals to community mental health providers when appropriate
  • Support continuity of psychiatric care and medication access post‑release
Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited PMHNP program
  • Current PMHNP license in CA and/or TX.
  • DEA registration and prescriptive authority (or ability to obtain)
  • BLS certification
  • Prior experience in corrections, inpatient psychiatry, crisis services, or community mental health
  • Experience treating serious mental illness and dual‑diagnosis populations
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed care and forensic mental health
