LeoLabs enables military space commands, civil government agencies, and commercial operators to confidently detect, track, characterize, and respond to threats in space. Our proliferated, multi-mission radar network, real-time orbital data catalog, and AI-powered analytics support secure, safe, and dynamic space operations.
At LeoLabs, our core values of Innovation, Integrity, and Impact guide everything we do. We foster an environment where bold ideas are encouraged, doing the right thing is fundamental, and our work makes a meaningful difference in safeguarding space and our way of life on Earth. As part of our team, you’ll contribute to building the world’s most comprehensive living map of orbital activity, designed to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of our era. Together, we are preserving the U.S. and Allied advantage in space, driving the growth of the global economy, and enabling the future of space exploration and innovation.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will be the Electrical Infrastructure Engineer within the Global Infrastructure team at LeoLabs, reporting to the Director of Global Infrastructure. You will be responsible for leading and advising on all aspects of electrical infrastructure design, specification, compliance, and execution for LeoLabs’ global network of ground-based radar sites.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring the electrical backbone of our radar infrastructure is resilient, compliant, and optimized for operations in remote and varied environments. You’ll contribute to electrical engineering and project management expertise across feasibility assessments, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing support of operational radar facilities.
This role has the option to be a remote role, and candidates located anywhere with reasonable time zone overlap with the East Coast of Australia and West Coast of the United States (where our current team is currently dispersed) will be considered. For example, a remote candidate based on the West Coast of the United States would be well suited. As part of onboarding, the selected candidate will travel to LeoLabs’ headquarters in Menlo Park, California, for one or two trips lasting a week or two in the first 3–6 months to collaborate closely with our hardware engineering team.
In addition to supporting the deployment of new radar sites, you’ll also provide guidance and technical input to team members maintaining and upgrading electrical infrastructure at our existing radar sites worldwide. There may be occasional opportunities to travel to operational sites to inspect infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, or support upgrades—depending on your interest and availability.
This role requires someone with a strong, self-motivated project management background who thrives on working independently and efficiently within a globally distributed team. You will work across diverse cultural contexts and geographic locations, collaborating with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders around the world. Your contributions will directly support LeoLabs' mission to scale its space domain awareness and space traffic management capabilities through a growing network of advanced radar infrastructure.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing electrical engineering input into site selection, feasibility studies, and due diligence assessments for new radar infrastructure projects.
  • Leading and managing the end-to-end delivery of the electrical infrastructure workstream on assigned radar site builds
  • Developing and reviewing detailed electrical design packages, including load studies, power distribution layouts, grounding systems, and redundancy strategies
  • Ensuring compliance with international codes, regional standards, and internal safety and operational requirements
  • Creating and maintaining documentation, design templates, and technical specifications for external contractors and consultants
  • Advising on backup power systems and integrating redundant solutions, (such as generators, ATS/STS units, UPS, etc) into new and existing designs to enhance operational resilience. This includes mitigating single points of failure, supporting modular system design, and selecting components for reliability in harsh environments
  • Coordinating with internal radar systems engineers and external consultants to align infrastructure delivery with radar system requirements
  • Managing relationships with third-party consultants, vendors, and contractors through all stages of site development
  • Supporting procurement efforts by writing specifications and reviewing equipment and contractor proposals
  • Providing oversight and quality assurance during construction and commissioning of electrical systems
  • Advising and supporting Global Infrastructure team members responsible for maintenance and upgrades of existing radar facilities
  • Maintaining up-to-date records of project schedules, budgets, and risk assessments for the electrical scope of each project
  • Engaging with stakeholders and partners in diverse regions and cultures to help drive progress at international sites

Qualifications

  • Live on the West Coast/Pacific Time Zone (we are not considering NV)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience designing and delivering electrical systems for industrial, infrastructure, or mission-critical facilities
  • Proven experience managing engineering or infrastructure projects from concept through execution and close-out
  • Deep knowledge of power systems including medium/low voltage distribution, surge protection, lightning protection systems, grounding, and backup solutions
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules and wiring schematics for industrial power systems
  • Experience with generator sizing and load calculations
  • Understanding of surge protection strategies, lightning protection systems, and earthing systems
  • Familiarity with international electrical codes and permitting processes (e.g., NEC, IEC, AS/NZS 3000)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on clear documentation and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, stay organized, and handle multiple projects in parallel
  • Interest in working across different cultural, geographic, and regulatory contexts
  • Comfortable collaborating in a fast-paced, distributed team environment
  • Proficient with engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and analysis software (e.g., ETAP or SKM)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting infrastructure projects in remote or international locations
  • Familiarity with radar systems, satellite ground stations, or telecom infrastructure
  • Background in operations, maintenance, or reliability engineering
  • Experience in startup or scale-up environments
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 10% of the time

Within 1 month, you’ll:

  • Complete LeoLabs’ onboarding program and build context on our radar technology, vision, and global infrastructure
  • Review current electrical infrastructure documentation and identify areas for improvement
  • Begin contributing technical input to active feasibility studies for new radar sites
  • Become familiar with current new radar sites location project we have underway.

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Lead the electrical infrastructure design and support the project management effort with a new radar site location project
  • Establish working relationships with consultants, contractors, and vendors
  • Provide guidance to the infrastructure maintenance team on improvements and upgrades at existing sites
  • Own and refine internal documentation, templates, and standards related to electrical infrastructure
  • Travel to Menlo Park HQ for onboarding and collaborative sessions with the Radar Hardware team.

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Oversee electrical work through design, procurement, and construction phases across multiple international radar projects
  • Ensure timely, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of electrical infrastructure
  • Support quality assurance inspections and acceptance testing
  • Be engaged in infrastructure planning for operational improvements at existing radar facilities
  • Lead efforts to standardize infrastructure upgrades planning and electrical consultant engagement across the radar network

Within 12 months, you’ll:

  • Become the go-to expert for electrical infrastructure within the Global Infrastructure team
  • Drive improvements in system reliability, design consistency, and contractor engagement
  • Actively support the delivery of radar infrastructure projects in multiple global regions
  • Mentor others and help shape long-term strategies for infrastructure delivery
