This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Tactacam LLC. We are currently looking for a Sr. Firmware Engineer in United States.
As a Sr. Firmware Engineer, you will lead the development, integration, and optimization of wireless firmware for next-generation IoT devices. You will collaborate closely with global hardware partners to ensure high-quality, reliable, and power-efficient connectivity solutions. This role spans multiple wireless technologies including BLE, Wi-Fi, Cellular (LTE-M/NB-IoT), and GPS, and offers opportunities to guide system bring-up, OTA workflows, and regulatory certification processes. You will play a hands-on role in designing scalable firmware solutions while mentoring partners and influencing cross-functional teams. The environment is dynamic, innovative, and collaborative, offering the chance to work on cutting-edge battery-powered connected devices and make a tangible impact on product performance and user experience.
Accountabilities
- Lead the specification, review, and validation of BLE, Wi-Fi, Cellular, and GPS modules integrated into embedded systems.
- Serve as the primary firmware point of contact for ODM and JDM partners, guiding development and ensuring alignment with product requirements.
- Define and review low-power operation strategies, sleep modes, and radio duty cycling to achieve battery life targets.
- Guide implementation and troubleshooting of IoT protocols (MQTT, HTTP, CoAP) over wireless stacks.
- Ensure secure and reliable communication through TLS/DTLS and VPNs, as applicable.
- Collaborate with partners to bring up wireless modules on custom hardware, and lead debugging of connectivity, RF performance, and interoperability issues.
- Define and review OTA firmware update workflows, secure provisioning methods, and remote configuration management.
- Support wireless testing, regulatory certifications (FCC, CE, carrier certifications), and field readiness validation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of embedded firmware development experience focused on wireless connectivity for IoT devices.
- Proven experience collaborating with ODM/JDM partners on embedded systems or consumer electronics products.
- Hands-on expertise with BLE, Wi-Fi, Cellular (LTE-M/NB-IoT), and GNSS/GPS modules and firmware stacks.
- Strong ability to design low-power firmware and optimize wireless performance for battery-operated devices.
- Familiarity with MCU platforms (ARM Cortex-M) and RTOS environments (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, etc.).
- Strong debugging skills using RF tools, protocol analyzers, and embedded development environments.
- Solid understanding of IoT protocols, embedded security practices (secure boot, encrypted communications), and OTA workflows.
- Preferred: experience with global ODMs/JDMs delivering products at scale, wireless module/RFIC vendor SDKs (Quectel, u-blox, Nordic, Murata, SiLabs), cloud-connected IoT systems (AWS IoT, Azure IoT), factory firmware and production test support, and scripting languages (Python) for automation.
Benefits
- Competitive salary range: $130,000 - $165,000.
- Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision.
- 401(k) retirement plan with company contributions.
- Paid time off to recharge and maintain work-life balance.
- Disability and life insurance coverage.
- Opportunities for professional growth and hands-on experience with cutting-edge IoT and embedded systems.
