This role offers the opportunity to join a highly skilled, collaborative team managing enterprise SQL Server environments for multiple clients. As a Senior SQL Infrastructure and Development DBA, you will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of database infrastructure while driving best practices in development, performance tuning, and disaster recovery. You will mentor junior DBAs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to strategic planning, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing SQL Server environments. This fully remote role encourages autonomy, technical ownership, and professional growth in a flexible and rewarding environment.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the architecture, implementation, and management of SQL Server environments, including advanced HA/DR solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, failover clusters, and geo-replication.
  • Perform capacity planning, growth forecasting, and resource optimization to ensure database reliability and performance.
  • Define and enforce database standards, best practices, and security policies across multiple environments.
  • Conduct advanced performance tuning, optimization, and disaster recovery planning, including regular DR testing.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level DBAs.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, and application teams on enterprise initiatives and major deployments.
  • Review and approve schema changes, migrations, and new deployments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (SOX, GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) on critical incidents and implement preventative measures.
  • Oversee automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency using scripting and automation frameworks.
  • Participate in on-call rotation up to 2 times per month.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience with SQL Server administration and development.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge and experience tuning parallelism settings.
  • Skilled in SQL Server Agent alerting, performance baselining, and monitoring solutions.
  • Experience with disaster recovery design, high-availability solutions, and database security.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities for remote work environments.
  • Preferred experience: consulting, Red Gate SQL Monitor, replication/log shipping, VMware or Hyper-V configuration, Windows clustering, and disk/network performance evaluation.
