This role provides an opportunity to lead and shape a high-performing, distributed data engineering team working on cloud-native, big data solutions. You will oversee the architecture and development of scalable ETL pipelines for both batch and streaming data while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence. The position involves hands-on leadership, coaching, and technical guidance across multiple time zones, ensuring best practices in data engineering, governance, and DevOps are implemented. You will partner with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, compliant, and high-quality data products. Ideal candidates are experienced in Java, Scala, Python, cloud platforms, and modern big data technologies, and are passionate about mentoring engineers and optimizing distributed systems. This fully remote role offers the chance to impact data strategy and engineering processes at scale.
Accountabilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of cloud ETL and data engineers, fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Architect and oversee the implementation of scalable, cloud-native data pipelines using technologies such as Apache Beam, Spark, and Airflow.
- Collaborate with Product, Architecture, TPM, and Data Governance teams to ensure secure, compliant, and high-quality data solutions.
- Promote adoption of best practices in data engineering, including data quality, lineage, cataloging, and governance aligned with data mesh principles.
- Champion agile methodologies and continuous improvement in engineering processes, tooling, and DevOps practices.
- Manage team performance, career development, and talent cultivation in a distributed environment.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance, reviewing code and architecture to maintain high standards across projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in engineering leadership roles.
- Strong programming experience with Java, Scala, and Python.
- Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) including services like Aurora MySQL, ECS, MSK, EMR, S3, and EFS.
- Experience with big data frameworks such as Hadoop and Spark, and knowledge of data formats like Parquet and CSV.
- Familiarity with containerized microservices and event streaming using Kafka.
- Proven ability to lead distributed teams, implement best practices, and deliver high-quality data products.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
