We are seeking a highly experienced and innovative Distinguished Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced network routing and switching protocols. In this role, you will work on large-scale control plane and overlay technologies, contributing to cutting-edge networking solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and drive engineering-wide initiatives for performance, scalability, and reliability. Accountabilities

• Triage and resolve internal and customer-found issues across network software systems.
• Write, review, and implement feature specifications, detailed designs, and test plans.
• Develop, optimize, and scale network protocols and solutions, individually or in teams.
• Evaluate and integrate third-party libraries and frameworks as needed.
• Participate in architecture and design initiatives, driving high-quality and scalable solutions.
• Mentor, onboard, and provide technical guidance to team members.
• Collaborate with product, customer, and sales teams to understand requirements and ensure delivery aligns with business goals.
• Present engineering updates to leadership and customers, and engage in technical community activities such as papers, blogs, talks, and standards contributions.
• Ensure intellectual property protection and consider filing patents for innovative solutions.

Requirements

• BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
• 20+ years of hands-on development experience in networking or software engineering.
• Expertise in C/C++, Go, and Python programming.
• Strong experience with control plane protocols: BGP, OSPF, ISIS, LDP, MPLS.
• Knowledge of L2 technologies: STP, PVST, MSTP.
• Experience with control plane infrastructure: TCP/IP, RIB, FIB, BFD, IPC, interfaces, and events.
• Familiarity with overlay technologies: L3VPN, EVPN, VXLAN, and segment routing (SR-MPLS, SRv6).
• Troubleshooting experience with large-scale deployments.
• Experience with model-based manageability frameworks using YANG, XML, JSON.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and mentorship skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
