Distinguished Software Engineer, Platform Architecture

This role offers the opportunity to shape the technical foundation of a fast-growing, mission-driven platform. You will define and lead platform architecture across critical services, driving both technical strategy and execution at scale. Acting as a senior technical advisor, you will influence engineering teams, mentor senior engineers, and ensure architectural decisions align with business priorities including compliance, enterprise readiness, and integrations. This position requires hands-on experience with complex distributed systems, platform services, and cloud architecture, while maintaining a focus on high-quality, scalable solutions. You will work in a collaborative environment that values innovation, operational excellence, and practical impact on real-world users. Your work will directly improve platform performance, developer velocity, and long-term system reliability.

Accountabilities:

• Define, evolve, and maintain technical architecture for platform services, supporting enterprise-scale growth and operational efficiency.
• Establish architectural patterns, standards, and reusable components to guide engineering teams across services.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to align platform architecture with business strategy, compliance requirements, and long-term vision.
• Lead design reviews, provide guidance for high-impact initiatives, and address system bottlenecks and technical debt.
• Mentor and develop senior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, platform thinking, and scalable design.
• Contribute hands-on to foundational components as needed, ensuring solutions are secure, reliable, and maintainable.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance platform performance, scalability, and developer productivity.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep expertise in distributed, cloud-based systems and platform architecture.
• Proven experience delivering large-scale systems and influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
• Extensive knowledge of platform services such as payments, billing, identity, search, and APIs.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Ruby, React, JavaScript, Python, Java, Node.js).
• Strong understanding of development methodologies and tools (Agile, Scrum, CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling).
• Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strategic and pragmatic mindset, able to make high-impact decisions under ambiguity.
