Job Role: Bookkeeper
Compensation range: AUD $1,400 – $1,800 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who The Client Is: Our client is an Australian-based business operating across a growing group of companies within the hospitality and service industries. The business is fast-moving, entrepreneurial, and focused on building strong operational foundations as it continues to expand. The owner is highly hands-on, collaborative, and values people who are dependable, proactive, and organised. As the business grows, they are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper who can take ownership of the day-to-day financial operations, maintain clean and accurate records, and provide reliable reporting that supports business decision-making.

Role Overview: We’re looking for an experienced Bookkeeper with strong Xero expertise to manage the day-to-day bookkeeping operations across multiple business entities.
This role requires someone highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of working autonomously in a remote environment. You’ll work closely with the business owner and external accounting team to ensure financial records remain accurate, up to date, and audit-ready at all times.
The ideal candidate is someone who can hit the ground running, communicate clearly, proactively identify discrepancies or issues, and confidently manage recurring bookkeeping responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records across multiple business entities using Xero
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice creation and tracking
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and transaction matching
- Process payroll and maintain accurate payroll documentation and records
- Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports, including Profit & Loss statements and cash flow summaries
- Work closely with the external accounting team and provide supporting documentation or workpapers when required
- Ensure financial records are clean, organised, and audit-ready
- Monitor and flag anomalies, discrepancies, or potential cash flow concerns proactively
- Maintain accurate filing systems and financial documentation
- Support ongoing financial process improvements and operational efficiency
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping experience
- Strong hands-on experience using Xero is non-negotiable
- Experience managing bookkeeping across multiple entities or companies is highly preferred
- Familiarity with Australian accounting practices and business operations
- Solid understanding of payroll processing and reconciliation procedures
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities proactively
- Comfortable collaborating remotely with business owners and external accountants
- Reliable, trustworthy, and capable of handling sensitive financial information confidentially
- Able to prioritise tasks effectively in a fast-paced business environment
Nice to Have
- Experience working with hospitality or service-based businesses
- Exposure to Australian BAS preparation support processes
- Experience improving bookkeeping systems or workflows
- Familiarity with cash flow forecasting and financial reporting analysis
- Experience working directly with founders or small business owners
