Role Overview

The Lead Services Specialist – Commissioning is responsible for leading and delivering high‑quality field service engineering across multiple platforms, including reactive and planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, and time‑critical installation and commissioning activities.

This role exists to ensure the successful delivery of complex service tasks and engineering projects, meeting strict time and budget requirements while operating independently in a home‑based environment. The Lead Field Service Electrical Engineer will work across a variety of platforms, providing expert maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning support both in the UK and internationally, including extensive offshore travel. Ideally based near Middlesbrough or Swansea, the engineer will represent the company on-site with professionalism, technical competence, and the flexibility required for a global service remit.

Your Impact

  • Lead the successful installation, commissioning, and optimisation of HV/LV drive systems and PLC‑based automation solutions on industrial sites across the UK and worldwide.
  • Deliver rapid, expert fault diagnosis and repair during customer breakdowns, minimising downtime and protecting critical operations.
  • Execute both planned and reactive maintenance activities to ensure long‑term reliability, safety, and performance of customer equipment.
  • Interpret, update, and improve technical documentation, drawings, and circuit diagrams to support accurate engineering records and future project efficiency.
  • Identify and develop new service opportunities while on-site, directly contributing to revenue growth and strengthening customer relationships.
  • Provide dependable 24/7 support as part of the call‑out rota, offering remote troubleshooting and on‑site intervention when required to keep key customers operational.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safety, compliance, and professionalism while producing clear, timely reports and guiding other field resources to deliver work efficiently and to company standards.

What Success Looks Like in This Role

The ideal candidate is an an adaptable, technically strong electrical engineer with proven field service experience, capable of leading complex drive and automation projects while working independently in demanding global environments who:

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in a business or technical field, or equivalent hands‑on experience gained through field service, engineering, operations, or a technical apprenticeship.
  • Holds a relevant electrical or power‑electronics engineering degree, HNC, equivalent hands‑on experience or a recognised multi‑year engineering apprenticeship.
  • Demonstrates confident interpretation of electrical and electronic engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Brings hands‑on experience with HV/LV drives, PLC/SCADA systems, and PC‑based automation across industrial sectors such as mining, steel, or power generation.
  • Possesses strong diagnostic, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to lead engineering teams and manage customer‑facing situations effectively.
  • Self‑motivated, flexible, and comfortable working alone or as part of a wider team, maintaining professionalism in challenging environments.
  • Fully prepared for extensive travel, including offshore work, with a flexible approach to working patterns and participation in a 24/7 call‑out rota.
  • Holds a clean driving licence and maintains the discipline to follow procedures, complete documentation, and uphold high safety and compliance standards.
