The Job

The Platform Engineer designs, builds, and maintains the BigChange/Simpro Group platform infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.

As a database subject matter expert, you will be responsible for database resilience, performance tuning, backup/recovery strategies, and database lifecycle management, while providing technical leadership and collaborating with platform teams on infrastructure automation and deployment processes.

What You’ll Do

  • Database Management;

  • Take an active role in SQL Server 2016/2019/2022 upgrades & migrations.

  • Own strategy, design, implementation, and maintenance for all database aspects including: change management processes, backup, recovery, disaster recovery, patching and maintenance, user access controls, compliance requirements, and security.

  • Contribute to technology evaluations, database architecture decisions and maintain comprehensive documentation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for the successful deployment of applications using CI/CD tools.

  • Provide technical guidance to development teams, and perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.

  • Troubleshoot complex database issues and participate in root cause analysis

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 availability and promptly address any platform issues.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and stay updated on relevant industry trends.

  • Develop and maintain database automation scripts using PowerShell and T-SQL.

  • Champion good documentation standards, be knowledgeable about the Internal Developer Platform (Backstage), and contribute to the same.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5-7+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration

  • Database migration experience using DMS, SSIS, or similar ETL tools

  • SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) administration and development

  • Working knowledge of one or more of PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Snowflake

  • Cloud computing expertise

  • Working knowledge of networking concepts

  • Proficiency in Bash, PowerShell, or Python
