The Digital Content Producer drives content creation for USA TODAY’s newest products—currently USA TODAY Pets and USA TODAY Grocery—attracting and growing audiences across digital platforms. Reporting to the Audience Editor, this role combines strategy and creativity to turn big ideas into compelling stories. The producer excels rapidly sourcing information and shaping it into multiple formats—text, social, video—to meet audiences where they are. They may also appear on camera to create engaging video content. This role is pivotal in shaping emerging products and offers growth opportunities in reporting and audience development. Success requires strong digital journalism skills, audience data fluency, and collaboration across teams, with a focus on flexibility, precision, and delivering content that supports engagement and revenue goals. This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in newsrooms to plan and create content in relevant formats that reach audiences where they are.
  • Create original content such as stories, social graphics, social videos, or quizzes, ensuring they are relevant and engaging for our audiences.
  • Occasional on-camera appearances for short-form video content on social platforms.
  • Use metrics to monitor real-time audience engagement, making data-driven adjustments to tactical execution of the strategies.
  • Use independent judgment in day-to-day activities.
  • Partner with editors to pilot and implement innovative solutions on emerging platforms—including AI and automation workflows—to enhance content creation, distribution, and audience engagement.

Required Skills:

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a focus on digital content and the ability to adapt to changing trends and technologies.
  • Proficiency in SEO and social media optimization, with a commitment to continuous experimentation across emerging platforms, including AI.
  • Experience working in a digital news publishing environment, with a keen interest in emerging digital tools and platforms.
  • Ability to analyze audience metrics and use the data to inform the work.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with multimedia content editing.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Candidates should have facility with AI and automation and experience in using it to enhance their journalism.

Requirments:

  • College degree in journalism, marketing or communications or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of related work experience
  • Short video editing experience is a plus.
  • Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Parse.ly.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $53,000 and $82,813. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications, and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
