What we’re doing isn’t easy, but nothing worth doing ever is.

At Diligent Robotics, we envision a future powered by robots that work seamlessly with human teams. We build artificial intelligence that enables service robots to collaborate with people and adapt to dynamic human environments. Our robots operate in complex environments such as hospitals, supporting staff so they can focus on higher-value work and patient care.

As we continue scaling our robot fleet and the systems that support it, we’re building a robust platform to manage robot operations, fleet performance, and integrations with customer systems. Join our mission-driven team as we build the applications and infrastructure that power the next generation of robot management.

Role Overview

The Cloud Architect – Robot Management Systems is a hands-on technical leadership role responsible for defining and executing the architecture and roadmap for Diligent’s Robot Management Systems. These systems power the cloud services, APIs, and applications used to manage robot fleets, integrate with customer systems, and support our Operations teams in the field.

This role combines architecture, engineering leadership, and hands-on development. You will collaborate closely with the VP of Robot Management Systems to define strategy and priorities, guide the engineering roadmap, and ensure high-quality delivery through modern cloud-native architecture and CI/CD practices.

You will work cross-functionally with Operations, Product, Implementation, and Customer teams to ensure the systems we build are scalable, reliable, and aligned with real-world operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the technical architecture roadmap for our Robot Management Systems platform.
  • Evolve the strategy for our cloud applications to standardize and organize services that support operations teams, implementation teams, and customers.
  • Design and implement scalable cloud-native architectures that support a growing fleet of robots and increasing operational complexity.
  • Develop and maintain Node.js backend services and APIs, ensuring high performance, reliability, and clean, maintainable code.
  • Architect and implement secure, well-documented APIs that integrate with third-party healthcare systems and customer environments.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, architecture patterns, and best practices across the team.
  • Drive software quality and compliance by implementing automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment best practices.
  • Lead the adoption of modern DevOps practices, including infrastructure as code, automated deployments, and observability.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a small, growing team of engineers.
  • Lead architectural reviews and guide engineers through complex technical challenges.
  • Ensure systems are designed with security, reliability, and compliance requirements appropriate for healthcare environments.
  • Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to support operational visibility and incident response.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies that improve system scalability, reliability, and developer productivity.

Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant work building distributed cloud applications.
    • Strong hands-on experience building service-based applications using Node.js.
    • Experience building modern web applications using React or Next.js.
    • Deep expertise with cloud-native architectures and modern backend systems.
    • Strong experience with AWS (preferred) or another major cloud provider such as Google Cloud.
    • Experience designing and operating microservices architectures and RESTful APIs.
    • Experience with tools such as GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, or similar deployment and automation platforms.
    • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
    • Strong experience with observability tooling including monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing systems.
    • Ability to define and drive engineering standards, architecture guidelines, and development practices.

View company profile

Diligent Robotics is an AI company that creates robot assistants designed to enhance the capabilities of healthcare workers. Founded in 2017 by Andrea Thomaz and Vivian Chu, both experts in social robotics, the company is on a mission to improve patient care by allowing healthcare staff to focus on what they do best. The flagship product, Moxi, is a service robot that assists clinical staff with routine non-patient-facing tasks such as running patient supplies and delivering lab samples. By automating these logistical functions, Diligent Robotics aims to alleviate the workload on human staff, reduce stress, and improve overall efficiency in hospital environments.

With over 30 hospitals utilizing Moxi, Diligent Robotics has positioned itself at the forefront of healthcare innovation and robotics integration. The company is focused on seamless human-robot interaction, enabling robots and humans to work collaboratively side by side. Diligent Robotics prioritizes human-centered design principles to ensure that their robotic solutions are intuitive and provide real value in clinical settings. These efforts reflect a growing recognition of the potential of robotics to address challenges within the healthcare sector, especially in light of labor shortages and increasing demand for efficient patient care.
