Senior UX Designer (Developer Experience)

About the Role

At Chainguard, we’re building products that secure the software supply chain—without slowing developers down. We’re looking for a Senior UX Designer to help shape intuitive, high-performance experiences across our product suite. This role sits within the Experience team, the frontline for all new product offerings. You’ll work closely with engineering and product to design workflows that make complex security and infrastructure concepts feel simple, fast, and usable. You’ll play a key role in owning products from 0→1 and scaling them to thousands of users, with a focus on clarity, performance, and developer experience. In this role, you will wear multiple hats from time to time.

What You’ll Do

  • Design end-to-end user experiences for Chainguard products, from concept through launch and iteration
  • Translate complex technical systems (CI/CD, containers, supply chain security) into intuitive, developer-friendly workflows
  • Partner closely with engineering and product to ship features quickly and iteratively
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for web-based applications
  • Improve usability and performance of data-heavy interfaces (large datasets, dependencies, logs, etc.)
  • Help define and evolve design patterns and systems across the product suite
  • Incorporate AI-driven workflows into product experiences where relevant
  • Gather and incorporate user feedback directly from customers and end users to continuously improve the experience
  • Proactively articulate speculative concepts into feasible solutions

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in UX/Product Design
  • Experience designing web applications at scale
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating: complex workflows, data-rich interfaces, user-centered approach and end-to-end product thinking
  • Experience designing for: developer tools, APIs / platforms, and infrastructure or security products
  • Experience designing interactions between AI systems and users
  • Proficiency in modern design tools (Figma, etc.)
  • Experience with design systems (e.g., Material UI or similar)
  • Proficiency in collecting feedback from users
  • Familiarity with Design Sprint and Agile development, bonus if they led design sprints that resulted into product launches

Nice to Have

  • Experience and ability to partner with marketing to help drive user growth (Product Led Growth, aka PLG).

Travel

  • Remote-first with a few company gatherings per year.
Base Salary Range
$140,000—$165,000 USD

A few of the benefits we offer:

  • Flexible & Remote-First Culture: Work remotely with team meetup opportunities, bi-annual destination summits, and a monthly stipend for coworking spaces, phone and internet costs.
  • Our Approach to Equity: Receive stock options upon hire and promotion. Plus, you can participate in secondary offerings and have 10 years to exercise your options (yes, you read that correctly: 10 years!).
  • 100% Covered Health Insurance: We cover 100% of your health, vision and dental insurance premiums for you and your dependents. Nothing comes out of your paycheck.
  • ∞ Flexible Time Off: Take the time you need – to do our best work, we need to recharge and reset.
  • 18 Weeks Paid Parental Leave: We offer 18 weeks for birthing parents and 12 weeks for non-birthing parents, with the option to use it all at once or throughout your child's first year.

If your experience is close but doesn't fulfill all requirements, please apply. We're building the best team in technology and are focused on hiring "Chainguardians" with unique backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.

Chainguard is at the forefront of enhancing software security in the open-source landscape. Founded in 2021 by industry veterans, Chainguard specializes in developing hardened, vulnerability-free container images designed to secure the software supply chain from the ground up. Their innovative approach emphasizes a philosophy of "Shift Left, Start Left," which integrates security measures directly into the software development lifecycle, ensuring that security is considered from the very beginning.

The secure container images created by Chainguard eliminate Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) before they can be introduced, addressing a wide array of programming languages and frameworks such as Java, Python, Go, along with notable services like Postgres and Redis. Chainguard’s solutions not only help in achieving compliance with essential standards like FedRAMP, NIST, and PCI-DSS, but also enhance developer productivity by removing friction in security processes.
