SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:High school diploma or GED. Associate's degree preferred. CCS, CIC, COC, or CPC-H certification required.
Experience:Three years coding experience in a health care setting. One year of lead or supervisory experience preferred.
Other Credentials:
Knowledge and Skills: Prior experience with encoder computer system. Possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communcation skills. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and ability to respond quickly in a fast paced environment.
Special Training:Instructed DRG assignment and the application of the requirements needed to comply with federal and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures responsibility for the schedule, payroll, and maintaining of appropriate staffiing levels while adhering to the budget.
- Performs all probationary and annual staff evaluations on or before the due date as measured by report for the inpatient and outpatient coding staff.
- Interviews, hires, trains, rewards, and disciplines employees in an effort to provide a productive work environment.
- Plans, assigns, and directs inpatient and outpatient workflow to ensure lowest possible volume of inpatient and outpatient accounts on the DNFB.
- Verifies accurate assignment of diagnoses and procedures within the medical record to comply with federal and state regulations.
- Monitors regulatory updates and their implementation and assesses their finanical impact on CH.
- Conducts regular audits and reviews of medical records at a senior leval and assists with external and internal reviews for coding accuracy of inpatient and outpatient accounts.
- Reviews inpatient and outpatient claim denials and rejections pertaining to coding and medical necessity issues and exercises discretion and judgment when recommending corrective action plans such as educational programs to prevent similar denials and rejections from occurring inthe future.
- Assists in the implementation of policy and procedural changes within the department regarding coding and quality issues required by third party payers and according to recommendations by coding consultants and agencies.
- Develops and coordinates educational and training programs on coding and documentation for department staff, physicians, billing staff, and ancillary departments.
- Provides management with various statistical reports, data, and audits information on health information management compliance issues, internal and external quality assurance results and activities, performance improvement activities and other statistical information as required or requested.
- Adapts to changing department demands required for higher department efficiency.
