Job Summary:
The responsibility of the Sr Director of Product Development is to direct and oversee the development of an on-trend own brand assortment and a cohesive overall presentation with National and Own brands.This role will be instrumental in identifying key product and style trends and helping translate into the CMP process impacting all trend-based businesses in General Merchandise.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities:
- Drives internal and external cohesive trend, color and design direction for merchants and suppliers
- Partners with buying teams to combine trend direction from vendors, trend resources and competitive assessments to develop a consistent trend board across categories.
- Guides merchants through assortment framework development at the category level.
- Serves as an internal design consultant for merchants to assist with product selection across both owned and national brands; ensures a member-relevant taste level across the assortment.
- Creates the appropriate vision, strategy and tactics to deliver against both short and long-term objectives.
- Leverages interpersonal skills to develop and maintain strong internal organizational collaboration across Merchants and Own Brand teams.
- Assist with the development and management of collaborative vendor relationships.
- Partners closely with the sourcing team to identify the right supplier capabilities and provides expert feedback and clear direction to ensure final products achieve initial strategic intent.
- Collaborates with and directs vendors to ensure trend direction is executed flawlessly.
- Provides visual merchandising and presentation direction / advice on an as-needed basis to ensure center core presentations are visually appealing and highlight product for our members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree Required
- Minimum of 10 years of product design, trend development and assortment framework development experience necessary.
- Proven leadership skills required
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills required
- Expert knowledge of industry trends, competition and assortment planning.
