Ameresco is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Level 3 DDC (Direct Digital Control) Controls Technician to join our team around Bradenton, Florida. As a Level 3 DDC Controls Technician, you will oversee and execute complex projects involving the design, installation, programming, troubleshooting, and optimization of DDC control systems in commercial buildings. Your expertise in controls engineering, system integration, and project management will be crucial in delivering high-quality and efficient building automation solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage DDC control systems' design, installation, and commissioning in commercial buildings, ensuring adherence to project specifications, codes, and standards.

  • Develop comprehensive control strategies, including logic programming, algorithms, and system sequencing, to optimize energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system reliability.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define project requirements, scope, and timelines.

  • Review control system drawings, specifications, and documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.

  • Program and configure DDC controllers, supervisory devices, and peripheral equipment using advanced control programming languages and tools.

  • Conduct detailed system inspections, performance testing, and functional verification to ensure proper system operation and functionality.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system malfunctions or failures, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, software, and protocols.

  • Collaborate with the Controls Team to develop and implement system upgrades, retrofits, and expansions.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 Controls Technicians, including training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer.

  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to DDC controls, building automation systems, and emerging IoT (Internet of Things) technologies.

  • Participate in project meetings, progress reviews, and coordination with other trades and contractors.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, regulations, and safety protocols throughout all project phases.

  • Act as a primary point of contact for client interactions, addressing technical inquiries, providing system demonstrations, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

  • Collaborate with sales and business development teams to identify opportunities for system enhancements and new project acquisitions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in designing, installing, programming, and troubleshooting DDC control systems and/or HVAC in complex commercial buildings.

  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites as required.

  • Expertise in advanced controls programming languages and platforms such as Reliable, Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of building automation protocols and communication networks, such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, etc.

  • Demonstrated experience in controls system integration, including integration with other building systems and IoT technologies.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex control drawings, schematics, and specifications.

  • Thorough understanding of HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, etc.

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, low-voltage wiring, and electrical codes.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex control system issues.

  • Strong project management skills, including managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
