I hold a BA Honours degree in Social Science (Sociology) from the University of Pretoria, where my research focused on "Education and Social Mobility in Post-Apartheid South Africa: Panacea or Illusion?". This study critically examined the limited impact of education on social mobility for the black population in South Africa, employing a qualitative research approach rooted in critical theory. Through an analysis of existing literature, I explored how education remains segregated, under-resourced in poor communities, and a key factor in perpetuating cycles of poverty rather than enabling upward mobility. My research underscores my ability to critically analyze data, interpret systemic inequalities, and present findings in a structured and impactful manner.
My professional journey has been defined by a combination of rigorous research and innovative problem-solving. As a secretary and intern at the University of Pretoria, I had the privilege of being part of a research team that presented at the Flexible Futures Conference 2023, a prestigious platform for pioneering ideas in education. Our paper, “Implementing the First Year Experience (FYX) in clickUP: A Case Study of the Pilot,” detailed how we designed and delivered a first-year module that addressed critical topics such as Sexual And Reproductive Health Rights, Anti-Discrimination, Mental Well-Being, And Financial Literacy. This project not only honed my research capabilities but also showcased my ability to develop impactful solutions for real-world challenges and collaborate within interdisciplinary teams.
In my current role as a Project Assistant at Wits Health Consortium: TB Accountability Consortium (TBAC), I have had the opportunity to contribute to published works. I authored an opinion piece titled "Stigma Remains a Major Barrier in the Battle to Eradicate TB" and an article titled "World Diabetes Day: Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps." These publications reflect my ability to translate research and advocacy insights into compelling written content that raises awareness and drives policy discussions. Additionally, my responsibilities at TBAC involve writing detailed reports on advocacy activities, conducting research analysis, and engaging stakeholders to advance TB accountability initiatives.
My academic and professional background aligns seamlessly with the mission of The Reach Trust, particularly in utilizing research and data-driven solutions to improve education and social outcomes. My dedication to social impact, commitment to equity in education, and collaborative mindset make me a strong candidate for this role. I would welcome the opportunity to further discuss how my skills align with your needs. Thank you for your time and consideration.
