The Role:

The Field Medical Advisor is pivotal in establishing and nurturing relationships within the medical and healthcare community, including healthcare practitioners, policy makers, payers, patient groups, and healthcare administrators. This role is dedicated to enhancing patient outcomes through peer-to-peer scientific exchange of Moderna’s mRNA platform science, fostering trust, and encouraging engagement through personalised and digital interactions. The Field Medical Advisor plays a key role in sharing thought and insight with the medical and healthcare community.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of Moderna’s mission to deliver new mRNA-based therapies and vaccines, requiring a blend of scientific expertise, strategic thinking, and a commitment to ethical engagement within the local governance framework. We value curiosity, resilience, and the ability to adapt and innovate in a dynamic environment.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Strategic Engagement: Develop and implement tailored Scientific Engagement Plans, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare ecosystem and therapeutic areas to share Moderna’s scientific messages effectively aligned with company strategy.

  • Communication Excellence: Utilise outstanding verbal and written communication skills to simplify complex scientific topics for diverse audiences, employing tools like Moderna's Scientific Communications Platform and generative AI.

  • Medical Intelligence: Generation of Insights pointing to something that is happening (the “what”), the reason why it’s happening (the “why”), who the key players are (the “who”), and often the geographic and temporal location of the problem (the “where”).

  • Stakeholder Interaction: Engage with a broad spectrum of people within the medical and healthcare community including Key Opinion Leaders, scientific societies, public health institutions at the national and / or regional level, advisory and professional bodies, patient advocacy groups and associations, academic and research institutions, advisory and regulatory bodies, policy makers and government officials applying strategic and empathetic listening to gather insights, and providing scientific support that aligns with Moderna’s objectives.

  • Scientific Expertise: Share up-to-date scientific narratives across Moderna’s therapeutic areas, including clinical trial data and research findings, to support the medical and scientific community.

  • Enhance of Patient Care and Outcomes: Works collaboratively with healthcare professionals, institutions, and systems to resolve problems and design solutions that enhance patient care and outcomes.

  • Management of Medical Strategies: Successfully execute medical engagement activities including advisory boards, partnerships, round tables, and conferences. Successfully navigate Moderna’s processes related to Fellowships, Grants, Sponsorships, and Investigator Sponsored Studies.

  • Compliance and Reporting: Adhere to ethical standards and compliance protocols, promptly reporting adverse events and product quality complaints, submitting medical information requests, and supporting investigator-initiated studies.

What We Expect from You:

  • Community Involvement: Actively participate in healthcare communities to improve patient pathways, identifying unmet needs and proposing solutions, while fostering strong relationships with Moderna stakeholders across various functions.

  • Knowledge and Development: Maintain deep knowledge of Moderna’s mRNA platform and its application, staying informed on industry trends, regulations, and healthcare policies.

  • Digital Proficiency: Effectively utilise digital tools for engagement, demonstrating a "Digital First" mindset, and seeking innovative ways to enhance digital interactions.

  • Collaboration and Training: Work closely with internal teams, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to drive initiatives, share knowledge, and contribute to internal training efforts.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Advanced scientific degree required– MD, PharmD

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Medical Affairs or field medical roles

  • Capable of being a Final Signatory of the ABPI code of practice. Previous experience a plus.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience in medical affairs and / or clinical development and / or market access, preferably with vaccines, immunology or infectious diseases.

  • Established relationships within the medical community and a strong understanding of healthcare ecosystems.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate compliance frameworks and interact ethically within a field-based role.

  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.

  • Business proficiency in English

  • Willing to travel up to 75%

  • Proficiency in digital technology and familiarity with virtual presentation platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
