At MCG, we lead the healthcare community to deliver patient-focused care. We have a mission-driven team of talented physicians and technical experts developing our evidence-based content and innovating our products to accelerate improvements in healthcare. If you are driven to enhance the US healthcare system, MCG is eager to have you join our team. We cultivate a work environment that nurtures personal and professional growth, and this is a thrilling time to become a part of our organization. With dynamic roles that offer meaningful impact, you'll be able to fully realize your potential. Plus, you'll enjoy world-class benefits and the security, stability, and resources of our parent company, Hearst, with over 100 years of experience.

We are looking for a board-certified physician who will work remotely to update and write MCG guidelines; this Editor MD, will primarily work on outpatient (Ambulatory Care) and Workers’ Compensation (ODG) content. The work you will do here will contribute to consistent, high-quality care across populations. MCG guidelines inform medical management policies, are a resource for effective utilization management, and act as a vehicle for effective communication about patient care.

What does a typical day look like for a physician editor? They conduct literature searches to identify new published medical literature for the topics in a specific guideline, review and evaluate published medical literature, and summarize new literature. Using principles of evidence-based medicine, they assess the quality and trustworthiness of the evidence and using their critical thinking to update the guideline criteria. Their goal is to enhance the delivery of optimal healthcare.

We spend most of our day in front of a computer, reading and thinking about medical evidence, the guidelines, and how we can support informed health decisions and high-quality and high-value care to patients. Physician editors may also work on white papers, blogs, and presentations, and they participate in workgroups and projects within the team and within the larger company.

Each physician editor works independently but consults with others on the team to share ideas and discuss challenging questions. One physician editor describes the team as “a group of witty nerds.” They take the work seriously but don’t take themselves too seriously, and they utilize the group chat to provide humor, support, and connection.

You Will:

  • Update and write clinical guidelines for diagnostic tests, imaging, procedures, and interventions; this includes focused medical literature searches, evidence synthesis, use of MCG tools and systems to write formatted guidelines
  • Advise clinical leadership on clinical, policy, and external topics
  • Write and present thought leadership materials, including white papers, as assigned
  • Participate in client meetings and sales meetings, as appropriate.

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • You are a physician who loves to learn, particularly about medicine
  • You understand and embrace the principles of evidence-based medicine
  • You are able to work independently and are self-motivated
  • You are extremely detail-oriented
  • You have a sense of humor
  • You have experience in medical literature searches using PubMed
  • You are skilled in evidence analysis (ie, critical appraisal of meta-analysis or randomized control trial)
  • You have proficiency with Microsoft Office products (eg, Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • You are comfortable learning to use software solutions to complete your work

Education or Training:

  • ABMS Board Certification, preferably in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Academic, payer, and/or Workers’ Compensation experience preferred

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Active, current, unrestricted MD or DO license in a state or territory of the United States required
