Job Summary:

The Managing Director of Field Medical, as part of the field medical team, leads a team of Regional Medical Directors (RMDs) that serves as a scientific resource responsible for balanced exchange of medical information and education with healthcare professionals throughout the lifecycle of the product/s. The Managing Director of Field Medical will have some responsibilities similar to RMDs in a small territory around their home base. This position is a remote-based manager-leader, reporting directly to the Head of Clinical and Medical Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

External Environment and Customer Focus:

  • Ensure team’s ability to drive scientific exchange with thought leaders, appropriate HCPs, and access stakeholders, within a given geography to answer scientific, unsolicited product related questions.
  • Support and evaluate RMD’s ability to effectively present information to HCPs and ability to respond to questions, ensuring medical accuracy and compliance with local procedures, ethical and legal guidelines and directives.

Support Clinical Trial Activities:

  • Ensure active support for company sponsored studies as agreed with supervisor.
  • Oversee appropriate support of Harrow sponsored studies to facilitate education and/or discussions around the trials and safe and effective use of Harrow products, as agreed with management.
  • Oversee recommendations and insights to clinical development/operations team on study and site related topics for Harrow sponsored trials within the therapeutic area based on knowledge of the field and through direct contacts with potential investigators, as agreed with management.
  • Ensure appropriate support of HCPs in ongoing Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs), and new submission process as agreed with management.

Contribute to the Medical Plan:

  • Develop and oversee national Field Medical plan.
  • Actively participate in the cross-functional Medical Matrix Teams.
  • Ensure adoption of cross-functional institution/account planning approach.
  • Contribute to development and delivery of scientifically meaningful medical program/projects in line with the Medical Affairs and Field Medical plan.

Provide Medical Support:

  • As necessary and appropriate, support the initial and ongoing medical/scientific area and product specific training and provide key scientific updates to internal stakeholders (e.g., Commercial, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Legal, Compliance, HEOR, Market Access).
  • Serve as extension of the medical information group to provide product and pipeline therapeutic area expertise to HCPs.

Management and Development:

  • Actively manage RMDs.
  • Oversee directly and ensure all RMD activities are strategically aligned with the overall Medical strategy.
  • Support employee development.
  • Provide coaching and direction as part of active management.
  • Ensures all employees understand and act within local business processes, including compliance guidelines, relevant FDA regulations and legal and ethical standards.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • MD, PharmD, PhD, DO, or OD degree required.
  • Ophthalmology experience required. Experience in Dry Eye Disease preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Field Medical Affairs, either as a RMD, MSL, or similar roles required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience managing direct reports in a Field Medical Affairs team required.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead national field medical projects or initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability in account management.
  • Work in cross-functional teams with proven track record managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Work in matrix environment with ability to succeed in ambiguous environment.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring within a Field Medical Team.
  • Leading and executing autonomously.
  • In-depth knowledge of disease area, including key scientific publications.
  • Clear understanding of customer (HCP and payer) and patient needs.
  • Knowledge of principles and implications of pharmacoeconomic data.
  • Knowledge of the US Healthcare System and the Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Understanding environmental and industry trends (e.g., Market Access and Patient Advocacy) and their impact on the business.
  • Knowledge of regional key institutions/IDNs/Health Systems.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial design, process/procedures required for clinical activities.
  • Knowledge of all relevant compliance standards.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, in spoken and written word.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills as demonstrated by and documented in previous performance reviews.
  • This position will involve time in the field with external customers when needed. Additional time may be required with Home Office Stakeholders on Strategic initiatives.
  • Travel of 50% required. Must live within 30 minutes of a major airport.
