Pharma Business Development team focuses on exploring the applications of Ginkgo’s platform in the therapeutics and vaccines space, and building partnerships that reflect Ginkgo’s business objectives. The business development team is an integral part of a cross-functional team, including technical, marketing, deal transaction, IP and legal teams, and Commercial operations that drive collaborations from conception, through negotiation and, ultimately, to signing.
Ginkgo has programs spanningengineering gene therapy capsids to improve transduction, enhance tissue tropism and reduce immunogenicity with Selecta Bio; synthetic biotics for treatment of homocystinuria with Synlogic; enzymatic therapies for orphan and rare diseases with Selecta Bio; gene therapy manufacturing with Biogen; biologics manufacturing platform with Novo Nordisk and small molecules for undruggable targets with Boehringer Ingelheim.
We are building a therapeutic modality agnostic platform through our partnerships and also acquiring relevant capabilities and IP, such as StrideBio’s AAV Capsid discovery and engineering platform assets:

Job Description
In this role, as a member of the Pharma Business Development team you are responsible for building the partnering strategy, identifying areas and partners where our platform in collaborations with partners can address gaps in therapeutic modalities that enable our partners to address key unmet patient needs. You will be leading the expansion of Ginkgo’s partnership with large pharma companies, from conceptualization of partnership frameworks to being the long-term relationship owner for shepherding collaborations.
Responsibilities
Accountable for deal targets to grow Ginkgo’s partnerships with large Pharma enterprise accounts.
Build and execute enterprise account strategy for pharma enterprise accounts and cultivate new collaboration deal opportunities.
Collaborate closely with the deal transaction team to lead agreement discussions, structure deals and lead deal negotiations with potential partners; in addition to leading deals, support and mentor BD team members with deal sourcing, deal structuring and negotiations.
Grow Ginkgo’s network within the Pharma ecosystem including within large pharma companies.
Represent Ginkgo at industry events and shape the SynBio agenda across the industry.
Travel, as necessary, for conferences or partner meetings.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and/or science; a PhD and Master degree in life science will be a plus.
Typically 8-10+ YOE plus PhD (or equivalent experience with a Bachelor's), including proven experience growing and developing a team to deliver results
Demonstrated account management track record, with existing strong relationships across large pharma partnering organizations and experience in negotiating complex deals to build meaningful research collaboration partnerships with large pharma companies.
Business development experience with deal sheets including research collaborations with large pharma companies.
Preferred Capabilities and Experience
Deep understanding of the drug discovery and development across multiple modalities; with a preference for greater expertise in drug discovery.
Recognized business leader in biopharma pre-clinical research and development partnering.
Preference for sell-side business development experience to large pharma organizations.
Demonstrated networks to CSOs, Heads of Research, and Business Development at biotech and large pharma companies.
Prior experience within a fast-growth company or entrepreneurial environment is a plus.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to partner effectively with the executive team and cross-functional leaders throughout the company and communicate thoughtfully to diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated commitment, self-motivation, and drive, and enthusiasm about being a part of Ginkgo’s mission.
Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $180K+, as well as company stock awards. Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience.
