Senior Backend Engineer

The Role

In the position of Senior Backend Engineer, you will be at the forefront of developing and evolving our platform, utilizing your deep expertise in both backend engineering and machine learning.

This is a position in Northbound, a venture incubated by MVP Factory.

Northbound is revolutionizing supply chain logistics with a B2B SaaS platform that uses real-time data and AI to improve inbound cargo shipments for trade and manufacturing companies. We enable businesses to better manage their supply chains, leading to significant cost savings, more accurate deliveries and reduced demurrage and detention fees.

Our platform doesn't just offer visibility; it combines milestone data with customer-specific contexts to create optimal operational plans through AI. This approach elevates logistics decision-making, addressing the industry's challenges with manual processes, high costs, and customer dissatisfaction due to delays.

Starting with a prototype in early 2023, we’ve now partnered with our first paying customers, proving the value of our AI and automation solutions. At Northbound, we're dedicated to making supply chains more efficient and reliable. The potential to impact global logistics is huge, and we're just getting started.

In the role you will...

• Develop and enhance the platform using advanced software practices and methodologies
• Participate in requirements engineering, ensuring alignment with the disciplined Agile principles
• Design at both high- and low levels, create prototypes, and join in reviews
• Uphold top-tier Testing & Quality Assurance standards, utilizing unit testing, integration testing, and other validation methods
• Lead and engage in Code Reviews, promoting continuous improvement, best practices, and collaborative learning
• Exploring and assessing emerging technologies for potential integration into our platform, with a particular emphasis on machine learning innovations, including LLMs.
• Mentor junior team members to elevate the team’s performance.

Your profile

• We are seeking a highly skilled individual with the following qualifications:
• Exceptional programming aptitude, coupled with a talent for logical and abstract thinking.
• In-depth knowledge of technologies essential for backend development in Python.
• Proficiency in REST Web Frameworks (Flask, FastAPI), relational databases (PostgreSQL, AWS Aurora), containers (Docker), and Serverless architectural patterns (AWS SAM, Lambda, API Gateway).
• Demonstrated experience in testing and validating development using Pytest, Mypy, and Flake8, with proficiency in executing tests within CI/CD pipelines.
• A strong commitment to crafting clean, efficient code and driving sustainable advancements in backend development.
• A collaborative mindset, dedicated to delivering exceptional results within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Empathy and a willingness to mentor, collaborate with, and learn from peers and team members.
