We are seeking a Site Health & Safety Advisor to be based at the CNRL Horizon Site in Northern Alberta. This is a temporary position to support a current industrial construction turnaround project. Charter flights from Calgary or Edmonton and camp will be provided.
The Site Health & Safety Advisor is responsible to actively promote health, safety & environmental culture to all levels of employees with the assistance of policies and procedures in accordance with company beliefs, policies, procedures, and objectives and will report to the Site Health & Safety Lead. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- To represent the Company and communicate with the Client on a daily basis and to representative the Company in a professional manner
- Implementation of company policies and procedures during their employment at Black & McDonald
- Only perform tasks and or use equipment for which they are competent
- Refuse to perform unsafe work and agree to intervene on all unsafe acts and conditions to ensure, on behalf of the Company, that all required site Health & Safety policies, procedure and personnel are in place and adhered to complete the Project. In addition, to take corrective action where required to ensure a safety for all and protection of the environment
- Advise the Health Safety & Environment (HSE) activities as it relates in planning, procurement, construction and commissioning of the piping, mechanical, electrical and equipment installation on site
- To ensure, on behalf of the Company, that all required site Health Safety & Environment (HSE) policies, procedure and personnel are in place and adhered to complete the Project. In addition, to take corrective action where required to ensure a safety for all and protection of the environment
- Execute the Projects in accordance with Company Corporate Policy
- To lead with development and implementation of the Health Safety & Environment (HSE) programs
- This position will be 80% field and 20% field office

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) Certificate
- CSTS-09/CSO/BSO/PST/SCOT
The following certifications/designations are considered an asset
- Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
- Health Safety & Environment Certificate
- First Aid - Standard
- Fall Protection
- Confined Space Entry
- Fit Testing (1/2 & Full Mask)
- Aerial Work Platform (AWP)
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years+ experience in a Safety Advisor role in an Industrial Construction, site-based project
- Possess a strong knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act code and legislations
- 3+ years’ experience working in Shutdown/Turnaround projects
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Your working knowledge of related legislation and the ability to interpret the regulations and laws is an asset
- Ability to work with limited supervision, in a team environment with great attention to detail
- You have the capacity to problem solve and thrive in high pressure situations
- Ability to influence staff at various levels to promote loss prevention
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Pre-Access D&A
- Proficient user of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point)
- Willing and able to work on a rotational work schedule, which includes fly-in & fly-out to site from Calgary or Edmonton
- Ability to drive a vehicle for work related purposes
- Valid class 5 drivers' license (with clean 3-year abstract)
