Job Description:
We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Independent Contractor based in South Korea to join our Rapid Prototyping team. Reporting to our Senior Manager of Rapid Prototyping, this role will support Manufacturing through sustaining engineering activities, including the development, issue, and control of the technical documentation and processes needed for made-to-spec component sourcing and production. This role will also involve transitioning products from the design phase to full-scale manufacturing, while acting as a liaison between the design team, the manufacturing team, the supply chain/procurement team, the reliability and safety team, and the service team, providing expertise on component sourcing and design considerations to enhance testing, manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability of our products.
- Attend engineering technical reviews, identify potential issues early in the design process, recommend corrective actions, and coordinate critical manufacturing.
- Function as an advisor to design team on best practices for designing products that are easily manufacturable, assembled, and serviceable.
- Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to identify and assess potential suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturers.
- Engage and expand fabrication and manufacturing vendor base to prepare for volume manufacturing.
- Liaison between technical, supply chain, and reliability and safety teams to develop material and process specifications needed to define the characteristics of the products.
- Define, implement, and improve quality standard procedures and standard work instructions.
- Support the made-to-spec component sourcing and selection process to ensure optimal quality, cost-effectiveness, and supplier reliability.
- Address and resolve any manufacturability issues that arise during the transition from NPI to production.
Requirements
Education & Technical Qualifications
- BS/MS in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, and 5~10 years of experience in manufacturing, design, or a closely related field.
- In-depth knowledge of ASME Y14.5 drafting standards and inspection implementation for Quality Assurance and Quality Control and has as working understanding of ISO 9001 certification requirements & related QMS (quality management system).
- Well versed with APQP & PPAP implementation.
- In-depth knowledge and experience of manufacturing processes, equipment (reactors, heat exchangers, drums, and pumps, etc.), instrumentation (valves, flow meters, transmitters, etc.), mechanical (API, ASTM, ASME, etc.), and design principles.
- Well versed with DfX principles specifically regarding DfM, DfA, DfC, DfSC, sheet metal parts & welded assemblies.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing, interpreting, and providing feedback on vendor technical documents, designs, and specifications.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, including mentorship, team collaboration, and the ability to lead multiple projects independently.
- Ability to consult with vendors and negotiate terms, ensuring the best value without compromising on quality.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with management of projects in oil&gas or automotive fields
- Deep technical and engineering experience in fuel & energy conversion devices (engine, fuel cell, reformer, turbine, etc)
- Familiar with PLM software, Propel or 3DX preferred. SolidWorks/CATIA 3D modeling and drafting experience.
