Business Intelligence Engineer

Essential Job Functions:

• Data Modeling and Preparation:
• Designing and implementing effective database schemas..
• Cleaning and transforming raw data to make it suitable for reporting and analysis.
• Report and Dashboard Creation:
• Designing, developing, and maintaining interactive dashboards and business intelligence reports.
• Using Power BI’s visualization tools to create compelling visuals that convey the data story clearly and effectively.
• DAX and SQL Scripting:
• Writing Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) for more complex calculations and data analysis within Power BI.
• Utilizing SQL queries to manipulate and retrieve data from databases.
• Integration and Publishing:
• Integrating data from many sources into Power BI data models.
• Publishing reports for user access while managing different permission levels to ensure data security and compliance.
• Performance Tuning:
• Optimizing reports and dashboards to improve speed and efficiency.
• Troubleshooting performance issues to ensure a seamless user experience.
• Collaboration and Consultation:
• Collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and translate business requirements into technical specifications.
• Providing training and support to end-users, enabling them to make the most out of Power BI capabilities.
• Keeping Up-to-Date:
• Staying updated with the latest updates and features in Power BI and other related technologies.
• Exploring new trends in data visualization and business intelligence to enhance reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop new and maintain existing Power BI reports, measures, visualizations & data models
• Comfortably integrate data from multiple data sources into Power BI models
• Maintain consistency among multiple report files by using Tabular Editor and ALM Toolkit
• Perform thorough QA, testing and validation of each new Power BI file update
• Maintain version control using Azure DevOps, Visual Studio and Git
• Support clients and dev team via root cause analysis of complex data environments
• Troubleshoot and resolve bugs, errors, and issues in source data and Power BI
• Ability to work autonomously and is self motivated to develop solutions
• Strong communication internally with ability to interface professionally with customers
• Problem solving and reasoning in developing data models and creating solutions using appropriate sources

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
• 3-5 years of prior experience developing data models using Power BI, Power Query & DAX
• 3-5 years of related experience with product development, system management, business intelligence operations, data warehousing, reporting, and data analytics
• 3-5 years of prior experience with relational databases, including SQL, and database objects such as views, stored procedures, functions, and their use in a business intelligence environment
• 3-5 years of prior experience with ETL processes and data integration solutions
• 3-5 years of prior experience developing and supporting tabular data models using tools such as Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, Visual Studio, Azure Analysis Services, and ALM Toolkit
• 3-5 years of prior experience with version control processes using Azure DevOps and Git
• Prior experience in an Azure environment using Azure SQL Databases and Azure Data Factory
• Prior experience using NetSuite or similar ERP/Accounting systems
• Prior experience with data validation of accounting concepts and financial reports
• Industry experience in financial reporting, operations, software and/or services
• Customer facing business consulting experience
• Competency with coding languages and tools such as JSON, C#, PowerShell

LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to use active English vocabulary of 10,000 words; read and understand instructions; and define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation. Ability to verbally convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and using adjectives and adverbs. Ability to communicate complex sentences, using normal word order with present and past tense and good vocabulary, so that others can understand clearly.
