WePlanet is seeking a Head of Philanthropy & Foundations to build and lead its major foundations and HNWI fundraising programme from the ground up. The role requires experience in major gift, foundation, or institutional fundraising at a mission-driven organisation, with a personal track record of securing significant six- or seven-figure commitments from major foundations and/or HNWI donors. The role is fully remote and offers a competitive salary range based on location, with flexible working hours and generous paid leave.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in major gift, foundation, or institutional fundraising at a mission-driven organisation
  • A demonstrable personal track record of leading fundraising work that has secured significant six- or seven-figure commitments from major foundations and/or HNWI donors
  • Experience of building a foundation or major donor pipeline, not only inheriting and maintaining one
  • Outstanding written and spoken English, with the ability to operate comfortably with the idioms and expectations of top-tier philanthropic institutions
  • Strong proposal writing and strategic storytelling skills, translating complex, science-based campaigns into compelling cases for support
  • Strong visual presentation skills, with the ability to conceptualise and produce quality decks for major funders, working effectively with designers, AI tools, or both
  • Confident public speaker, comfortable holding the room in small pitch meetings, on funder panels and from the stage at events
  • Ability to operate with autonomy and judgement, navigate ambiguity and work at pace in a lean, fully remote team
  • Alignment with WePlanet's ecomodernist values, including comfort advocating for evidence-backed technologies such as nuclear power, GMOs and alternative proteins as part of the response to the climate and nature crisis
  • Willingness to travel internationally for cultivation meetings, conferences and stewardship events

Benefits

  • Flexible working hours
  • Generous paid leave
  • Annual professional development budget
  • Annual team meet-ups and retreats

WePlanet is a global, grassroots environmental movement advocating for science-based solutions to address the climate crisis, biodiversity collapse, and global poverty. Established in 2021 from a gathering of scientists and environmentalists in Antwerp, the organization operates as a network of citizen-led groups across multiple continents. Formerly known as RePlanet, the organization rebranded in 2023 to avoid trademark conflicts as it expanded its international presence. At its core, WePlanet is guided by the principles of ecomodernism, which emphasizes the use of advanced technology and human ingenuity to solve environmental challenges. This philosophy marks a departure from traditional environmentalism by championing progress and optimism rather than a return to a pre-industrial past. The organization is committed to a forward-looking approach, constantly reviewing its positions to align with the latest scientific data and evidence.

The organization's mission is to liberate nature and elevate humanity by promoting policies and technologies that enable a sustainable future. Key campaign areas include advocating for the expansion of nuclear energy as a clean and reliable power source, promoting the transition from animal agriculture to alternative proteins like plant-based foods and cultivated meat, and supporting the use of genetic technologies such as CRISPR to enhance crop yields and reduce the environmental footprint of agriculture. WePlanet actively engages in political advocacy, public campaigns, and thought leadership to influence policy and public opinion. The organization prides itself on its financial independence, funded exclusively by philanthropic foundations and individual supporters, and strictly refuses any funding from corporate interests. This ensures its advocacy remains unbiased and aligned with its core mission of creating a world where both humanity and nature can thrive.
